Pirate Lord Jira
(a.k.a. Jira the Cannibal)
Jira the Cannibal (also known as Jira, Father of Beasts, and the God of Destruction), is the captain of the Beast Pirates and one of the 3 Pirate Lords.
Appearance
There are few that see Jira in his true form. When going out in public, Jira often takes the form of one of many monstrosities. Griffons, hydras, demons, purple worms and more are common forms to see Jira in. Regardless of his form, a few things remain the same: his piercing yellow eyes, his immense strength and his "rainments", magical items he wears into battle. Like his girdle, which increases his already monstrous strength to unforseen heights, and his lion pelt, said to be impervious to all attacks. In his true form, Jira resembles a dwarf, but is far larger, reaching nearly 9 feet tall. He has a stocky body, with only a single scar running across his chest. A mess of black hair and beard adorns his head, and deep bags lie under his eyes. Where it not for his extreme size and aura of power, he might be mistaken for a town drunk.Relationships

In addition to extreme physical strength and constitution, Jira also has the unique ability to shapeshift into non-humanoid creatures his body has consumed. The number of creatures Jira has consumed over the years is innumerable, including any and all beasts imaginable, and various monstrosities. Forms spotted include sea serpents, hydras, grey renders, rocs, chimaera and more. Jira still has access to his intellect and fighting skills in each of these forms. In times of extreme anger, Jira has been known to assume a form known as Typhon, an amalgamation of every creature he's devoured. In this state, Jira loses all sense of self, and if he stays in it too long, he may forget himself and rampage for days.Personality
Jira lives out his life in a perpetual state of exhaustion, due to his refusal to sleep. He is often described as miserable, high-strung, and extremely quick to anger. He often spends his day drinking excess amounts of coffee and devouring enormous amounts of meat. He is extremely domineering and cruel to his subordinates, having little tolerance for failure. Despite this, he does have a twisted sense of honour, taking on any and all challengers and honouring the requests of those that survive duels. On the rare occasion that Jira does fall asleep, usually due to binge drinking, his manner improves dramatically. He acts more fatherly towards his men, and even accepts a few mistakes before enacting a brutal punishment.Biography
Early Life
Jira was born and raised in Haugr-Eldr, the remnants of a great dwarven kingdom in the Old World. Once a bastion of a great dwarvish empire, it collapsed - like many other empires did - sometime during the Forgotten Age. Although the true reason for what caused the collapse has been lost to history, the various clans that once lived there were quick to point fingers at each other, and this grudge has lasted for generations, turning the place into a civil warzone. It was under these circumstances Jira was born into. A dwarf, although you wouldn't think it to look at him now. Like all the other clans of the area, Jira was expected to first and foremost serve the clan above all else. His own life was secondary. From the age he was old enough to hold an axe, he was made to fight in the battle for supremacy. Most dwarf children die in their first combat, but not Jira. He excelled in violence, killing his first man at 9 years old and becoming a feared presence on the battlefield by the time he was 15. Jira was a natural-born killer. Over time he became known as a demon, a monster that slaughtered entire squadrons and never fell no matter how many bullets you pumped into him. It wasn't long before the very mention of his name would send armies into a route. Eventually, thanks in no small part to his efforts, the young Jira's clan quickly grew to dominate all others, and out of fear, the other clans bowed their heads to Jira's clan, ending the conflict at long last. Celebrations were had. Feasts and parties and all sorts raged on for days. Thousands came to pay tribute and offer fealty to the victorious clans' elders. This didn't sit well with Jira. He had done the impossible and helped end a war that at the time seemed endless, but at the cost of him being forced to kill and destroy countless lives, to suffer horrific injury after horrific injury, and watch people that he loved and respected become another statistic on the list of lost casualties, all the while these old, weak dwarves who sat and did nothing but command men to die reaped all the rewards. This realisation broke something in the young dwarf. The sheer injustice that all his suffering was to empower a few old men drove him into a rage beyond anger and into sheer madness. When he came to, the entire victory feast was destroyed, his clan elders and family members slaughtered. Jira had committed the ultimate sin in dwarven culture - the killing of one's own clan. Horrified by his own actions, Jira fled Haugr-Eldr.Joining the NWTC
It didn't take long for talks of this extraordinary fighter to spread far and wide. Jira himself would travel from town to town, wallowing in his grief. In an attempt to put himself out of his misery, he would frequently get himself into trouble, starting fights and antagonising guards in an attempt to meet a glorious end in combat. Instead what happened was he effortlessly slaughtered any who opposed him. This went on for about a year or two until the NWTC caught wind of this powerful man and sent Aegis agents to apprehend him, which they did with little difficulty. From there the young Jira was offered a choice: die at the gallows in dishonour, or join the Navy and hunt dangerous pirates, meeting his proper end by one of their hands. Jira hated the idea of a large group benefitting from his struggles like his clan did, but between that and a dishonourable death, he reluctantly agreed. His time at the NWTC was short, as although his combat skills were great, his temper and loose-cannon nature made him near impossible to control, leading his inferiors to fear him, and his superiors to send him on long voyages just so they didn't have to deal with him. In time it became clear that his violent tendencies were costing more than benefiting. Since Jira had grown incredibly strong and arrogant that any attempt to capture and execute him would no doubt be a bloodbath. So Aegis came up with a smarter idea, simply send him against the most deadly pirate in the world, and let the problem sort itself out. Jira was assigned with the capture of Edward Newgate.First Encounter with Newgate
Having heard tales of Newgate, Jira lept at the chance to face a man who could finally give him the glorious death he craved. After months of searching, he finally found the great pirate and challenged him to a duel, only to be knocked aside easily. The man Jira met then surprised him. A man with unbeatable strength and skill, a crew that admired and was willing to die for him, pure freedom to sail and do as he pleased, and an ambition to stand atop the world. Jira realised that this man was everything he could have ever wanted. Having been spared by Newgate, Jira vowed to become stronger and rechallenge Newgate and take his crew for himself. The pirate captain merely laughed and dared him to try.Transformation
With a new lease on life, Jira vowed that he would not die until he had become like Newgate. He left the Navy and sailed the New World with a modest crew of deserters. The young dwarf underestimated the challenges of sailing the New World, however, and quickly found his ship and crew destroyed via hurricane. Fate had other plans for Jira himself, however. He was lucky enough to wash up on the shore of Chantli, a remote island of Yuan-ti and lizardfolk. After earning the respect of the warriors there, Jira was allowed to spar and train with the Yuan-ti and grow stronger. There he noticed that some Yuan-ti has unusual features. Some had bear-like maws, or octopus tendrils, or change form into beasts other than snakes. When he enquired about this, Jira was told that the residents of Chantli had a secret rite, known only to their highest priests. The Rite of Draconic Ascension. Those who undergo this dangerous ritual, consume the flesh of Zehir and survive would gain the ability to use the strength of their defeated enemies by devouring their corpses. The end goal of such a ritual was to allow the warrior who underwent it to eventually become a dragon, in the Chantil resident's views, the apex of all life on earth. Entranced by the allure of this power and the potential of becoming a dragon himself, Jira snuck into the quarters of the highest priest of Zehir, and forced him to perform the ritual on him. Guards rushed to stop him but they arrived too late. Jira slaughtered the guards and devoured their bodies, gaining their strength and the ability to assume a reptilian form.Early Piracy
With his newfound power, Jira fled Chantil, killing and eating a crab on the beach, assuming its form, and diving into the ocean, where he fed on other sea life, gaining the ability to transform into all sorts of creatures. As he wandered the ocean, he hatched his plan to destroy Newgate. He would devour every strong creature he came across, but for that, he would need access to a large swathe of the New World. He would need ships, crews and lieutenants to carve out territory for him. And powerful ones. And so, emerging from the sea, Jira set to work doing just that. Stealing territory from other pirates and the NWTC alike, hunting powerful beasts. He began to think of himself as a beast and desired a crew to match. Although his crewmates were too weak to survive the Rite of Draconic Ascension, he learned of the curse of lycanthropy, and forcibly exposed his crew to captured lycanthropes in hopes of transferring the curse. With a powerful fleet at his back and one thousand beasts in his heart, his body permanently mutated beyond its natural bounds, Jira felt at last ready to challenge the King of the Pirates once more. That was when he got the news: Edward Newgate had turned himself in, set for the gallows. Jira would never get his rematch.Age of Piracy
The news of the Pirate King's execution sent Jira into a deep depression for weeks. It was only when a subordinate informed him of Newgate's final message that he regain hope again. Although he can never face Newgate again, he can do what he did - sail to the ends of the New World and claim the treasure Newgate left there for himself, proving himself, at last, to be as great a man as him. He also learned of the rumour that the one who finds the treasure will have the ability to change the world in whichever way they see fit. Jira set his eyes on creating a world ran only by the strong, by those that actually fight the battles, not the weak-willed intellectuals and politicians that stand atop the current system. So great was his conviction, that Jira vowed to never again willingly sleep until the day he beats the Pirate King. He expanded his forces considerably, but ran up against the unexpectedly stiff competition in the form of other strong pirates and found himself in a stalemate. Jira and his rivals collectively became known as the Pirate Lords. In an effort to beat this stalemate, Jira remembered the teachings of the Yuan-ti, at how those who underwent the rite do so in the hopes of one day becoming dragons, the strongest of all creatures. Jira journeyed to the island of Ryoukuni, the ancestral home of the dragons, ruled by a mighty dragon Shogun Thakesis. He would add the might of the Dragonborn samurai to this army, gain political power, and when the time is right, kill Takhesis, devour her heart, assume the throne of Shogun, and become a true dragon.Notable Crew Members
