Lady Daralis Swanson

Wife of the governor of Harlock's Rest. Extremely powerful wizard. Possible connections to Aegis. No longer a fan of the NWTC.   Born Annabeth Clearwater, Daralis used to be a top student alongside Theodorax at Tharslemoor University. The two bright minds had a shared goal of bringing peace and justice to the entire world, fully buying into the NWTC's propaganda. Together they quickly rose to the top of academia far faster than any who had come before them, and formed a lasting friendship and later, a romance. The two also formed a bond with a rogueish and not quite as book-smart young naval officer by the name of Johnathan Swanson, later known as Governor Swanson, a charming and ambitious but rather academically stunted young man with big ambitions of one day becoming Grand Admiral. Together these three sought to revolutionalise the NWTC, making them even more effective at 'maintaining peace'.   Their paths would eventually diverge late into their Academy days. Both Daralis and Theodorax had both attracted the attention of The Board due to their keen intellect and magical abilities. Daralis was scooped up by Aegis, and quickly rose through their ranks to become a Seraphim in record time. Theodorax in the meanwhile was taken to Pangea to serve in the Board's personal Research and Development department, where he created new weapons and rebuilt artefacts to aid in the NWTC's mission.    Approximately 20 years ago, the Pirate King's execution inspired a great many individuals to break free from the NWTC's grip. For the New World island of Eltur however, it inspired even more. An armed rebellion against the NWTC rose up and quickly spiralled out of control. Naval officers were dispatched and when they could not quell the peace, Aegis stepped in, with one single order from the Board: ERASE.   Daralis stepped in and did precisely that, assassinating rebellion leaders and their families, sewing discord, destroying hospitals other gruesome acts. She became known as a ghost, slaughtering all whilst leaving nary a trace of her presence.   The things she saw and did in Eltur changed her irrevocably. She'd toppled insurrections before, but the extended campaign forced her to stay and confront the morality of her actions. Her Aegis programming might have held, until she saw her childhood friend, Johnathan, trembling and holding the corpse of a child he had killed. Johnathan had been the officer in charge of the initial attempt to quash the rebellion, and it had broken him. Seeing someone she had once cared for experiencing and causing the same horror as she once did caused her to for the first in a long time to consider how her actions affected others.   Eventually the civil war came to an end, with the leaders of the rebellion meeting with Fleet Admiral Birs to negotiate terms of surrender. A few days later, neighbouring islands reported seeing a bright light on the horizon, and the island of Eltur was forgotten.   Although they could no longer remember the name of the island where they experienced their horrors, Daralis and Johnathan could not forget the faces of the innocents murdered in the name of justice, nor could they forget how all traces and memory of that island vanished without a trace. They realised that they could not fight the Company directly, and deserting would only get them erased too.   Johnathan instead came up with an idea. He left the military branch and set himself up as a politician, pulling a few strings as he went. After some trust was built up, he managed to get himself appointed as Governor of Harlock's Rest, a sparsely populated volcanic island that was closest to the mainland. Daralis then faked her death during a mission with her impressive illusion powers, had her face surgically altered, and joined Johnathan on Harlock's Rest under the name Daralis, where the two were wed.    Together with Daralis' magic and Johnathan's charlatanry, the two worked to create a safe haven for all enemies of the NWTC. They know that something Newgate found made the Company nervous, and decided that whatever it was was the only hope anyone had of standing up to the Company and their ability to erase islands from existence, an ability they assume was created by Theodorax. To that end, Harlock's Rest became a haven for pirates everywhere, and a starting point for many a dreamer that set out to sea in search of treasure.
