SC Vol. 3 - Reading Wave

My review of the month

Compared to the last two years, my third summer camp was also my best. Sure, I may not have written my best articles, but I'm still very happy with how this year's camp went. In the last two years, I got too caught up in the euphoria and perhaps ended up putting too much pressure on myself because of the prompts. But this year, I realized the true meaning behind the prompts and the camp and that's why I had real fun for the first time.

Summer-Camp for the wideness -
Worldember for the deepness!

A click away from my SC-Prompt-Page by Blue Fairy 74

Many say summer camp is the best time to work on new worlds. Sure, an empty world is the ultimate playground to really let loose without having to worry about maintaining internal coherence and continuity. But is it necessary to write in-depth articles during summer camp? Wouldn't Worldember be much better suited for that? In my experience this year, summer writing camp is the best place to "expand" the world with little things, fill in gaps, or dedicate an article to inconspicuous side notes and tooltips. And let's be honest, what world is really sooooo big that there's nothing left to write about, which the worlds of Hanhula, Mochi, Nightone, Demongrey, or Kwyn Marie have brilliantly demonstrated time and time again.   You may, of course, have a completely different opinion, and yes, I agree with you. But in my case, this "broadening" perspective on my world was eye-opening, as it gave me a lot of freedom in my writing. Perhaps this year I could have even achieved silver, but I'm happy to reached the copper award for the third time with 12 articles (2 for each continent and the world), over 10,000 words, a song, and a few small sketches!

My challenge participations

This year, it's hard for me to recommend any of my articles to you, because I don't really have a favorite. Of the 12 articles, 7 were based on tooltips or small mentions in other articles, and I'm happy that I've finally been able to expand on those.   Perhaps I had the most difficulty with the Order Bull of the Wise Flame, because it represents an important building block for the Fire Continent in relation to learning fire magic. But as a so-called legal document, it's unfortunately not the most enjoyable to read. Nevertheless, I'm glad I wrote it and thus took another step in the development of the Fire Continent's matriarchy.   I had the most fun writing the article about Vîma Lwgox - Shroomy-Hurley-Burley, and thanks to Imagica, I was also inspired to write my first song. Unfortunately, the English version isn't quite finished yet, but I'm already very proud of the German version, because it could really be a hit for my goblins. A big thank you also to Nightone, who was inspired to create a song based on the Metal Caps' name. You absolutely have to listen to it. You can find the link in the comments of the article.   And then there was the article about the Shal ak Esri—Mentors of the Elements for the magical training of the Homo Elaqitanii. This might end up being one of my favorite articles, even though I'll have to make some changes later in connection with the article on magical training.

"Shroomy Hurley-Burley
we’re have a feast today
melodies are magic
let sadness flow away.
Lovely joy in our hearts
let the anthem sing
every meadow goblin
dancing in the ring."

Swimming Flower turtle by Blue Fairy 74

For the remaining five articles, I was inspired by the prompts and mostly just wrote. I had the most fun with the Kiulúsh - Butterfly Guardians of the Air Continent. I also used the formation template for the first time, and I never would have thought it could be so easy.   Of course, symbioses play an important role in Elaqitan, and I'm a big fan of them—you could almost say that the entire world lives in a single symbiotic bubble thanks to the World Tree, or rather, the vast underground mycellium—which, of course, complicates things a bit. You don't want to keep writing the same thing. In the end, I described Limiutl - Flower Turtles for the Water Continent. Perhaps you'll find them charming, too.   And even though the final article, like the building, is not yet finished, I hope you enjoy my homage to two great artists of the 20th century and visit the Magic Brush Inn.

This year, my special thanks go to all members of the Story-Teller-Circle for their wonderful support. To Imagica for the inspiration to write a song for my Shroomy-Hurley-Burley, and to Razhea, who is currently helping me translate the song and add music. To Demongrey, Tynen The Mighty, Tyrdal, and Mochi for taking the time to brainstorm some ideas with me, and to Catoblepon, who helped us prepare for this year's summer camp and the four waves with some extra homework during June. I also don't want to forget the newest member and thank Keon for the lovely comments. A big thank you also goes to Dr Emily Vair-Turnbull and Nightone, who never miss a single article and always leave kind words. THANK YOU!

Summer Camp Favorite Worlds

Even though Myth Cross (Myth-X) only wrote eight articles for this year's summer camp, the wealth of ideas and detail also deserves a diamond rating. I highly (warmest) recommend every article written for Arc Sagas.

Warmest is not an understatement, as my four favorites will transport you to the icy part of the world. Learn about mushrooms that give you language, hermits who guide you through the frost, the different tribes, each connected in their own way to one of the four elements, and how they use quills as a kind of magic wand. Each article has many inspiring ideas and great background knowledge that you shouldn't miss.

I admit, I wasn't keen on following Imagica's new world Crux Umbra because of its dark subject matter. Out of curiosity, I read one or two articles, and well, what can I say? It was frightening how deeply the darkness drew me into its abyss, and I devoured most of the 22 "shadow articles".

The articles are all GREAT, and I'm very happy that Imagica achieved Diamond for both worlds in her first SC participation. It's hard to believe she only started worldbuilding on WorldAnvil last August. She has a true flair for playing with familiar tropes and myths and completely reinventing them to the extent that they're still believable. Very few achieve this.

Mochi has achieved 1 million words for Yonderverse during summer camp and reached Diamond for the fourth time. A tremendous achievement. While many simply focus on writing at least 300-word articles to try their best to reach Diamond, Mochi has continually challenged himself over the past five years, which I greatly admire.

This year, his goals were to write at least one article per planet and at least 1,000 words. All of his articles combine cool ideas in a colorful potpourri of his fascinating world. Read my favorite about the greatest song contest the universe has ever seen—a dark place full of fascinating creatures—the language that unites the universe, and a "horse race" of an unusual kind.

Universal journey of discovery: Yonderhythm - Glassy Trench - Cosmopolis - Eleporan Seahorse Racing

I'm not sure if I've been following Demongrey's Million Islands since the beginning, but I can say that I'm a huge fan of his world, which repeatedly combines philosophical approaches with earthly myths and wonderfully integrates them into his world. During summer camp, he wrote a total of 40 articles and once again achieved Diamond in a brilliant way. It's important to note that he publishes at least one article a day, whether it's about an event like Summer Camp or Worldember, or a "normal" month with maybe a few (un)official challenges, to which I take my hat off in recognition.

Follow my favorite articles for the many islands and let yourself lose sleep – learn how the Tau Dilaut remember a special city – be suspicious of monster starfish, and discover the new uses for eggs.

Wonderfully thought out: Bottled Sleep - Sama-Sama-Laut - Diver's Bane - Eggs

Community favorite summer camp items

1st Wave: Nourishment

Prompt I:
A myth about a legendary food or drink.

Angel Cakes
Myth | Dec 1, 2025

E.G Bear wrote a truly enchanting article in honor of 12 angels for Middengeard, garnishing it with numerous sketches. For each simple recipe, there are tips for elevating the piece for a sophisticated setting or making it affordable for those on a tight budget. The variety of the 12 creations is wonderful and uniquely represents the respective angel to whom the cake is dedicated. Combined with the world's unique sketchbook design, the article is truly a small work of art that you could almost bite into immediately.

Add variations to your recipes!
Prompt IV:
A ritual related to agriculture.

While most of us have written primarily about joyful celebrations at this prompt, Han has looked for Istralar at the dark side and created an impressive ritual necessary for the survival of the inhabitants, one that has been practiced for centuries. No one would lightly set fire to their fields, but here it's for self-protection, which says a great deal about the culture, even if it's only written between the lines.

Interpret prompts in the completely opposite direction to your initial thoughts!

Prompt IX:
A city that many people want to visit.

Tyrdal is one of the few authors who doesn't actually need images to tell a story. His descriptions for Aran'sha are always so sophisticated that they capture the imagination of his readers. I particularly like that this time he focuses on the essentials when it comes to external appearances and also ingeniously lets each of his protagonists speak for themselves, thus directly addressing the reader once again.

Tell us enough so that the reader can easily imagine it, but also get to the end!

From the 1st wave I was also impressed by:

Bonfire Night by Dr Emily Vair-Turnbull is a wonderful ritual that invites you to sit comfortably by the fire. Are you brave enough to jump over the fire, or would you rather just enjoy a delicious caramelized apple?

Fal Nép - Tree-folk by CoolG is an enchanting species that lives in symbiosis, literally, with the flora of its surroundings. Which floral design would you prefer for your tree?

Grove of the Withering Root by Alikzander Wulfe is truly a dark place, captivating with contrasts that make you feel the chaos. Will you find it frightening, too?

2nd Wave: Roots

Prompt XV:
A garment traditionally associated with a culture

For her world The Veil of Tears, Snow Celeste wrote about a kind of sash belt that warriors receive from their wives only once in their lives. Reading the article, you sense how much love is woven into these unique pieces. Loyalty and love apparently play an important role for this ethnic group, and the author wonderfully portrayed this in the ritual of handing them over to the warrior. Perhaps sashes also serve as a kind of protective shield?

Incorporate simple objects into rituals and traditions so that they become an integral part of your residents' culture!

Prompt XVII:
An ancient tongue from which many common idioms spring

Kwyn Marie wrote for Evenacht about the ancient language of the nymphs. The author truly knows how to write excellent language articles, focusing less on boring things like grammar, pronunciation, etc. I particularly liked the explanations of why the sayings are still in use today and, of course, the background information on the use of many of the sayings, which provide wonderful insight into the culture of the nymphs.

When inventing idioms, think about their development and background!
Prompt XIX:
A symbolic building.

Square of Blades
Building / Landmark | Jul 28, 2025

Imagica has also written some great articles for her second world Kena'an. I thought the interpretation of the prompt was very well done, as you don't necessarily think of a statue or something similar when you think of a building. The metaphor at the beginning of the article to describe the location is also brilliant.

Use metaphors, symbolism or other linguistic devices to reinforce the meaning of the content of an article!

From the 2nd wave, the following are also highly recommended:

Maggram by Rumengol is a magical language based on runes that can cause great harm if used improperly. I like that it's not a single spell, but the use of the language itself, which enables magic and thus possesses real power. Which rune would you most like to cast?

House Versorinn by Olarae & Astaroth Arcaine is an organization that uses clairvoyants and empaths to pull the strings in the background, thus maintaining its power for centuries and keeping its enemies at bay. The organization is described in great detail and, once again, presented with wonderful art. What psionic gift would you like to use to channel the Force?

Patterned cloaks by Callyxtus are not just simple family tartans, but here they represent the hometown of the respective Sun Elf, with the author also considering the influence and essential characteristics of heraldry. Great little drawings complement the article in a charming way. What would the tartan of your city look like?

3rd Wave: Metamorphosis

Prompt XXII:
An ever-changing location that requires its inhabitants to adapt

Echo Isles
Geographic Location | Jul 25, 2025

All hail the gods found in most worlds! But have you ever considered transforming your gods into islands or other geographical areas and incorporating their traits into the flora, fauna, weather, and appearance? With this equally inventive article for Kena'an, Imagica has magnificently transformed their world's fate goddesses and their traits into islands.

Transform gods into the geography of your world!
Prompt XXVIII:
A species that undergoes metamorphosis

In this article by Alikzander Wulfe for the world Tanaria, animals are finally empowered to speak and use tools according to their physiology without being completely anthropomorphized. The concept is truly inspiring, and the article offers many compelling ideas.

If talking animals live in your world, avoid humanizing them too much!

Prompt XXIIIV:
A transformation caused by a celestial body

If you're reading this terrifyingly awesome article by CrazyEddie for his world Koria, you'd better not be afraid, because it might haunt you in your dreams, or maybe not only there. The author has wonderfully interwoven many different depths of nightmares here, creating a true horror scenario in my head.

Bring your readers' fears to life!

You shouldn’t miss these articles from the 3rd wave either::

Where the Sea Dreams of the Moon by Snow Celeste is a beautifully written article about a formation of mermaids who watch over the tides and coral reefs in the depths of the sea, each with a different role. Which guardian would you like to meet?

Prism, the Hopplume Puffletby Tillerz is a fluffy little bird that you'd love to cuddle. With its cheerful nature, it captivates an entire city and brings a smile to everyone's face. Would you also like to be gifted with some happiness?

Sun's Tan by Kwyn Marie is very unusual for a world like Evenacht, but a simple and fantastic idea for sun worship! Do you always have your sunscreen handle ready and use it?

4th Wave: Tomorrow

Prompt XXXII:
A building that is not finished yet

Nimin N has described for The Rosepetal a wonderful building that, in honoring the Enlightened, magnificently unites past and modern times in a sacred sanctuary and it is very understandable that it has never been completed until now.

Honor the inhabitants of your world in a special way!

Prompt XXXIII:
A visionary who changed the course of history.

The third article for Kwyn Marie's World Evenacht is also compelling, with a wonderfully described prophetess who, like many fortune tellers, is unfortunately branded a charlatan at the end of her life. In addition to her brilliantly told life story, I particularly like the various oracles she predicted throughout her life through various revelation patterns (riddles, word-for-word, etc.).

Let history and the future flow into your world through oracles and predictions!
Prompt XL:
A tool used by a nomadic culture

Ver' kaal
Item | Dec 5, 2025
Imagica's 3rd featured article for Kena'an was also breathtakingly beautifully written, as it gives such a simple object so much significance for a culture and brings it to life with rich detail. It would be a pity if you missed this article!

Turn small, insignificant things into something really big!

Also highly recommended from the 4th wave: :

Emperor of Cloudia and Aros by Callyxtus is another well-thought-out article in which you can practically sense the emerging conflicts, and it will certainly be interesting to see which power will ultimately bear the title. What influence does Earth's history have on the ideas of your world?

Runenkonverter by Nightone is a cool technology that converts Thaum stored in runes into kinetic energy, slowing Thaum consumption. Once it goes into mass production, it will surely become an indispensable machine that no one can be without. Would you buy a Rune Converter?

Merchant Republic of Arba by Ephraïm Boateng is a rising star on the trade's firmament, and you should definitely read the article for its well-developed history and considerations of its impact on the organization's "domestic and foreign policy"! How is trade conducted in your world?

What's next?

Elaqitan had already received its first CSS overhaul before summer camp, and I'm happy to have been able to present it before summer camp. The second phase, which includes the navigation bar, is scheduled for Worldember. I'm very excited to see how the implementation will work in the existing world. Elaqitan's homepage will also receive a few updates. I hope everything goes as planned and that I can complete the major overhaul by Worldember at the latest.   Additionally, before summer camp, I started writing short excerpts and "tooltips" in the form of dictionary entries for the existing articles. I incorporated this into the SC articles right away so I wouldn't have to do it again later. But there are about 75 articles for the letters G to Z where I still need to catch up.

Then, of course, there's Worldember. This year, I want to explore the water continent, although I've had very few ideas for that yet. So I need to start gathering inspiration for it.   And for all those interested who unfortunately didn't receive a Blue Mission in January because the spots were already taken, I'm opening a second round at the end of August. You're welcome to sign up for this. But be quick, as I've already been collecting requests for the spring ;). At this point, I'd like to ask the mission participants of the first round: How are your missions going? Do you have any questions, have you made progress, or have you even forgotten your mission? I'm very excited to hear from you all by January 2026 at the latest.
