Sush Rishimi (/ʂɨʃ.ɹɪˈʃimi/)
Known outside Elfish circles as the Great Elfish Library, Sush Rishimi is the storehouse of all elfish knowledge, and, as much as possible, the knowledge of all the world.
Purpose / Function
Sush Rishimi is the largest library maintained by the elfs. It is also the most secure repository of knowledge known, by nature of it's natural protections and the elite force the elfs maintain to protect it and the books contained therein.
Architecture
Externally, the library appears to be a series of spherical and hemispherical woody growths clumped together, emerging from a network of roots in the ground. They resemble the boles located on and around Rishä Pamoli. It is a very organic appearance.
The internal structure consists of woody growths for walls, shelves, work areas, halls, and other connective structures. Some are bark covered and some are bare wood. Occasionally, other organic structures appear.
As rooms and other structures are needed, they appear to grow of their own accord, generally over a series of days. Larger areas tend to take longer. Presumably, this is guided by Rishä Pamoli, based on the needs of the librarians.
While located about 800m from Rishä Pamoli, the library is actually housed in an offshoot of the Great Tree.
Defenses
Sush Rishimi has three levels of protection. First, it is naturally constructed of living tree-like materials, with thick walls covered in bark. This is very resistant to most kinds of damage. Second, there is an always-present contingent of elfish defenders composed of members of the Nushar, Vodar, and Kodax tribes. Finally, Rishä Pamoli herself can muster the forest itself in defense of the library.
History
Elfs formed the largest groups of intelligent beings that survived The Great Plague and the following Rebirth leading to the Fourth Age. While more humans survived the plague than elfs, Not one of them survived the duration of the Rebirth.
Some number of the surviving elfs realized that they would need to collect as much knowledge as possible in a storehouse of information, in a form that would not be lost if technology was lost. While most storage mechanisms used during the late Third Age survived the plague, the means to operate them could not be maintained. Books, however, could still be used, as long as the language could be read. So books were collected and the paper tree was developed. And the first library was made.
When Rishä Pamoli was discovered, the thought of having a library that had natural protection was shared. A few weeks later, Sush Rishmi was discovered within walking distance of the Mother of Forests. It was a perfect location for storing books. The interior was a near constant temperature and humidity, both perfect for storing books. The basic facilities of a library were there. And as needs arose, or more room needed, Sush Rishmi altered itself appropriately.
