Rel- The Pillar of Night and Dreams
God of night and dreams. Oracles and artists tend to be the most devout followers of this aspect, turning to their god for inspiration and divine wisdom. Rel is said to be the ruler of the unconscious realm we all enter when we go to sleep, a vast interconnected web through which they are able to see the world. They watch over the souls that drift through Their lands in repose, offering healing, wisdom, and revelation. The mother of souls who brings them into being from the dark, creating them from the forgotten aspects of ourselves that we leave behind in our dreams.
Rel’s main holiday is The Festival of Sleep, which occurs on the 30th of Talrel. On the eve of the celebration, gifts of new pajamas and books are given and everyone cuddles up to tell each other stories and sing traditional songs and lullabies. Everyone goes to bed a little early with instructions to dream really hard of whatever it is that they want the most in hope that Rel will hear them and make their dreams manifest in reality with the help of the Sleepwalkers. Every year, a certain number of Ayla from each clan are tapped to be Sleepwalkers who stay up throughout the night and deliver gifts to those who slumber. Those who wake with nightmares are urged to join the Sleepwalkers and are sworn to secrecy as to who is delivering the gifts this year. Upon finishing their tasks, they join The Moon for a special late night banquet of the last of the fruit from the previous year’s harvest and several rich delicacies. The Moon wears a special mask so as to represent Rel at this banquet. Once everyone has finished eating and has received their gifts given to them personally by “Rel,” they return to their clan hall to sleep off the feast. During the 24 hour period of the Festival of Sleep, it is considering exceedingly rude to wake any sleepers, lest you interrupt a message from Rel and incur their wrath.
