History
When Airo was 18, he found Hiro lying injured on a beach - seemingly shot in the side and bleeding out. Airo rescued him and helped him recover. Within the time Hiro spent in Airo's home recovering, they became quite close. Hiro had a good relationship with Usui (Airo's sick sister) and helped her out once recovered. Hiro hid his status as half-siren from Airo, as revealing his true nature would result in Hiro having the explain that he hunted and murdered humans for most of his life. For a few years, Airo and Hiro lived in Fallkirk with Usui. Airo and Hiro quickly developed romantic feelings for each other, but both kept them secret as they valued their friendship more than a potential relationship. Eventually, they needed to move to Winterwatch to obtain more money to survive. Airo obtained a job with the Quadshadow Factory to help pay for the machine he'd created to help Usui live - however, when he was injured and lost his leg in an incident at work, Hiro was the first to respond and spent most of his time trying to help him heal both physically and emotionally. Hiro ended up working to support the family as much as he could - but unfortunately, Usui passed due to her condition. Airo and Hiro both grieved, but Airo primarily blamed himself for Usui's death as he viewed that he could have completed the machine if he hadn't lost his leg. Hiro refuted this and spent a largely amount of time comforting and supporting Airo through the grief. Eventually, they lost the apartment they were living in and for a while lived on the streets together. Hiro caught hypothermia during the winter and got sick very quickly. Airo tried to get a doctor to look at him - but every one would refuse and needed payment up front for the treatment. Airo took Hiro into The Sacred Drum Bar to try and warm him up at least for a bit - which is how they met Nardina Whitthane. She helped Hiro recover for free, and thankfully no further complications arose. She offered to give them a place to stay until they recovered in her room - free of charge. Airo was relieved that Hiro recovered - almost confessing to him in the emotional moment, but held back as he knew he was sick and would be unable to provide a rational thought response. After that, they thanked Nardina and left to try and find a place to stay. Eventually, Airo found out that under the Quadshadow Factory was an unused basement which they could access. They eventually set up a makeshift home under the factory - and for a few weeks they remained down there and the two would attempt to get as much food as they could to survive. Eventually, Airo realised that the basement still has entry to the Quadshadow factory, and began to steal equipment and metal from the factory to begin a small business in providing prosthetic limbs to people who can't afford them so that they can return to work and continue surviving. For a while, they got by on this business. Eventually they picked up the members of their group and housed them in the hideout. When Grifiya arrives in the group and they start investigating incidents across Winterwatch, Hiro gets revealed as a half-siren. Airo initially worries that his feelings might have been caused by Hiro's magic, but they quickly learn that Hiro had never used his charm on Airo - even when he first arrived on land. After seeing him transform and them fighting Hiro's mother - Airo confesses to Hiro and kisses him whilst in his siren form. They finally began their relationship. When they arrive in Goldenleaf, Hiro ends up being trapped in the Goldenleaf attack and is brutally murdered defending the Orc Settlement from harm. Airo witnesses this and breaks down in grief, lashing out at everyone for leaving him behind. He even threatened Moira when she returned as he viewed that she was responsible for his death. After Hiro's death, Airo becomes extremely angry and withdrawn and rarely engages in conversations. However, Grifiya manages to commune with Fenmarel and revives him. Upon seeing Hiro again, Airo is overcome with relief and cried with relief to see him again. Hiro suffers from PTSD after the events and Airo often has to comfort him after a few rather intense nightmares. When in Fraenia, Airo had been using personal tools to try and refine a ring to propose to Hiro. Grifiya helps Airo find a sapphire to add to the ring, and when they return to Winterwatch, Airo proposes to Hiro - which Hiro accepts. Two years after the incident with Morality, Airo and Hiro get married. Witnerwatch's community raised enough money for the two to get married to thank them for the help they've provided over the years. Four years after that, Hiro falls pregnant with triplets (due to his siren heritage, he would usually have a clutch of seven at maximum) and gives birth to Aerial, Thalaris and Athena. When Airo dies in 834 F., Hiro also dies a few weeks after as he claims that he's lived a full life and doesn't mind ending it with Airo.
