Confederation of Kardan
Confederation Kraterocracy - Ruling of unified independent states across Kardan numbering to a fairly high number but those who have power in these areas are the strongest in various senses mainly those able to push around the most influence. There are many powerful Holds within Kardan that have come to the forefront. The heads of these various Holds meet in the Compo-Mentian Council. Out of the various Holds a few hegemon have brought the power of various others leading to a few major factions within Kardan.
The lack of magic have brought much innovation on the material technologcial creation driven by Gnomish inventors.
Some factions want a return to the old ways of magic especially with the success of Steelheart's reclaimation.
Others see Magic as a weakness of the mind and body, feel living without it is better and leads to a wholeness of body much beyond what magic can provide.
There are 7 major holds within Kardan controling many of the minor ones with their influence.
Totbaum: Political Center of Kardan mainly around Verfault Baum the deceased worldtree. Contains the capital of Kardan, Karbaum. Is head of religion and influnece politically. Contains mainly Dwarves, Gnomes, and Hafling.
Gloomsmead: This hold is primarily the producer of gunpowder as well as large amount of mining in the volcanic northern coast. Much of the mined minerals are directly transformed into metal by the forging of the volcanic lava. Dark black hexagonal stones are important religious markers here. This hold contains two major cities: Hearthold and Pulvicard. Controling a large amount of the military supply this hold has much sway. This hold contains mainly Dwarves and Gnomes.
Steelheart: This hold is the cultural homeland of the dwarves and is the only location in Kardan where magic is widely practices and possible. There are two major cities within this hold Steelheart and Taren'val. This hold contains mainly Dwarves and Moon Elves.
Nielfheim: This hold is the cultural homeland of the Gnomes. Mainly within the Salirin Plateau. This plateu is the origin of much invention and innovation. There are two major cities within this hold New Zem'ya and Kav'tar. This hold contains mainly Gnomes.
Terrenstrand: This hold is the point of much trade for Kardan. Having massive ports to allow for trade with the rest of the world. Originally settled by Hafling explorers. There are two major cities within this hold Rothaven and Ironsharbor. This hold contains mainly Halfling but also highly diverse with sailers from across Aris.
Zentrot: This centeral hold of Kardan is where much military training happens as well as denfense from incoming forces. The central stonelands it sits on connects with elaborate defensive tunnels into the Geselle Range seperating the Verfallen Desert from the Helia'rian Coast forming the brunt of the Sapphire Bastion. This hold contains two major cities, Grievestilt and Schmalmont. This hold contains mainly dwarves.
Barrenforge: This hold is located on the southern coast and primarily contains a barren desert. But the use of the sun and certain geological features makes this area the home of Kardans production. This hold is used to make much of tools and more refined goods of Kardan. However it is largely isolated and the deserts are infeseted with Goblin. This hold contains two major cities. Safeharbor and Zedendor. This hold contains mainly Dwarves and Hafling.
The population of Kardan is around 3,500,000 people with a urban population of around 500,000 (15%) compared to the rural population of 3,000,000 people (85%).
A large amount of the population lives within the mountains a total of around 1,950,000 (56%) underground compared to the 1,550,000 (44%) who lives above ground.
