The Citadel
"The Citadel is the sort of place you don't forget...even after a lifetime's journey around the world. It is simple, but powerful, cold, but precise, small, but roomy, and distant, but home." -Tantemtalem Histerian
Purpose / Function
To serve as the main capital and magic central of the Citraidarian Empire. The city of Uppekken is set in front of it, with a main path winding through the city to its main doors.
Design
The main room of the Citadel, the Great Hall is a large, rectangular room that has doors flanking its walls which lead to other rooms. In the center of the Great Hall is a well filled with glowing, blue water and that is the teyresae that drives the Citraidarians' magic. The walls are made of grey stone and tall, marble pillars run the length of the room, carved with strange symbols on them that no one can decipher.
Entries
There are eighteen doors in the Great Hall. There are eight on both the left and right sides, plus the entryway at the front and the door that leads to the priest's room. None of the doors are blocked in any way. There are no windows, which gives the room a dark, cavernous feel.
Sensory & Appearance
There is not much lighting in the Citadel in general, except for a few lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Much of the Citadel is enveloped in shadow, and what is filled with light has a blue, eerie glow to it thanks to the well of teyresae in the Great Hall, which provides an ample source of light. The room smells like fresh spices with a faint, smoky aroma. The room is fairly cold except in certain places where it can get very hot (ex. the priest's room).
Valuables
Being the general capital of Banthum, it has a large, extended library filled with tomes of secret knowledge as well as a vast treasury. It is the center of religious worship, so there is a large temple room filled with exotic incense and other valuables that are required for worship.
Hazards & Traps
There are no hazards or traps, though the Citadel is heavily protected by armed guards.
Special Properties
There is running water from a small, magical spring. The room is also airtight and is filled with particles of teyresae that allow Citraidarians to teleport using one of the portal stations in the Citadel's portal room.
Alterations
The original Citadel was built in a small town near Vleka and lasted for around 120 years before the Battlemaster Empire sacked and burned it. The new Citadel was relocated to Uppekken, a mysterious city hidden in the desert.
Architecture
The style is a hybrid of Gothic and a few other, minor architectural styles. The building is made out of a hybrid mix of shale, granite, and basalt rock.
