Azmarin
Azmarin is perhaps the most diverse city of all in terms of its population. Due to its secluded position away from all other major cities, organizations, and governments, many regard the city as a place to escape from their past and hide. Furthermore, Azmarin is home to a leyline located in the Temple in the centre of the city, causing many individuals to travel to Azmarin for religious purposes and magical training. The city is also a central hub for trade between the Federation of Tyrael and Leverdrift.
Finally, due to the presence of a leyline in the city, Azmarin is officially ruled by the Federation of Tyrael. However, due to the declining power of the Federation, their grip on the city has become almost non-existent, apart from the occasional visit to the leyline.
Government
With the Federation being minimally involved in the governing and protection of Azmarin, various inhabitants of the desert have taken up this role. This resulted in a select group of 12 individuals, typically rich business owners or prominent family heads, to run the desert and its cities. These 12 are the Baratashvili - the desert rulers, and are spread throughout the desert. One of the local Baratashvili is called Sima vain Waani.
Defences
Because Azmarin itself is relatively small size of Azmarin, much of the protection of the city are typically outsourced to adventurers who happen to be in the city through the Zylra Travelling Guild.
Industry & Trade
Just north in the mountains of Azmarin are abundant clay deposits unique to Ashalar. This clay is transported to the city and processed into various intricate clay products as pots and bowls. In addition, the abundance of fine sand within the region makes glassblowing very accessible for the production of various glass products. As such, clay- and glass-based products form the major trade export for Azmarin. The city is also well-positioned between Leverdrift and the Federation, meaning that many trade goods (e.g., gemstones and fabrics produced in Leverdrift) between the locations go through Azmarin.
History
The leyline under Azmarin was previously worshipped by the Waani Shasham do Khaiba, the desert tribes. But following the establishment of the city Azmarin, many of the tribes were attacked and judged by Azmarin's inhabitants. Even though there's current peace between the city and the tribes, it is an uneasy one.
Points of interest
Long before the emergence of the leylines, the desert surrounding Azmarin was thought to be a dense jungle. This is because numerous old ruins and other archeological evidence have been found in the desert. Even though its sandy dunes are always changing and many people who tried to return to the ruins that they once discovered, were unable to find them afterward. Even though the desert tribes have been known to understand the ways of the desert a lot better.
Natural Resources
The primary reason why Azmarin was founded was due to its leyline, even though it is positioned in the middle of the desert. As a result of this, the city does not have access to many natural resources and has limited products to export, apart from the aforementioned trade.
