Ruva-Balor

While Ruva-Balor has been thoroughly mapped and extensively studied in modern times, the continent, especially the sub-continent and island of Balor, proved difficult to explore to those searching for riches and glory in the past. Named the Final Continent, both major bodies that make up the landmass resisted all attempts to go beyond their coasts by various natural and unnatural means.   Ruva was the first of the two major bodies to be fully mapped out. The naturally wet environments spawned disease that quickly took away even the most prepared parties within months of initial contact. As the various nations grew better equipped to handle the illnesses spawned from the landmass, hostile tribes of humans and ger'kvay, untouched by modern civilizations, hunted those that dared invade their home.   Balor, as an unnaturally formed landmass, has always held a mystic quality to it. When first discovered, it was quickly noted that the large cliffs jutting out of the water were nearly impossible to grapple too, and all but impossible to climb over. As flight, both magical and conventional, began to develop, it was discovered that an arcane barrier of some manner enveloped the entire landmass. Enchantments would be wiped from a device, electrical circuitry would fry, and strange air movements downed those that tried to outsmart these barriers. Even into the modern age, satellite surveillance could only seem to record blurred imagery. What could be seen was tracked, but the details were guesses at best.   Suddenly and without any explanation, the arcane barrier that surrounded Balor has recently fallen. The giant island is now being flooded with those seeking to uncover what feels like the last secrets of the world.   While modern conceptions paint these lands as tribal jungles, the truth of Ruva-Balor is more complex. Ruva is a fractured landmass of islands populated with diverse cultures quickly adapting to the modern world. Balor is filled with a rich ecosystem that is among the most unique in the world, having been separated, both artificially and naturally, for at least hundreds of thousands of years.
