Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The main language spoken is Drifeyan, a language that's a mix between the elvish and dwarfish language the founders of Drifeyer used to speak. These languages in the way they were spoken millennia ago, sadly don't exist anymore, but in some of the oldest drifeyan manuscripts certain forms of it can still be found and are being tried to be reconstructed.

Culture and cultural heritage

Drifeyer is the melting pot of two very different cultures: the dwarves of the western mountains and the drifeyan sea elves, which before were called "western sea elves" and are descendants of the northern sea elves. There are also speculations that the drifeyan sea elves are a mix between northern sea elf and meadow elf.
The successful combination of these two cultures is the single greatest achievement in drifeyan history. It is even regarded the beginning of proper drifeyan history as it is known today, even though it's not at the beginning of the drifeyan queendom.

Common Dress code

Drifeyans are notorious for their way of dressing and many fashion forward people outside of Drifeyer are looking to them for inspiration.
As with everything in Drifeyer, the clothing is a hybridisation of light flowy elvish fabrics with generous strips of fabrics in wide sleeves and long robes and the heavy, draped fabrics, as well as the use of leather and decorative metal ornaments with a more practical and body concious silhouette of the dwarves. The fashion also needs to be adapdable to the mild breezy climate in the capital in the west as well as with the colder climate high in the mountains to the east.
Drifeyan clothes have bright, vibrant colours and use expensive fabrics such as different types of silk, velvet and leather. They also don't shy away from using precious metals, be it for belts and accessories or ornaments on the actal gowns themselves. Common colours are different shades of blue and turqoise paying homage to the elves' heritage from the sea, combined with silver, grey and anthracite to honour the dwarves' ancestry from the mountains. However, all colours of the rainbow can be found in Drifeyer, especially in Viëndyr. It has to be said, however, that members of the royal court and people visiting the palace are required to wear at least one piece of clothing in the official drifeyan colours (turquise, cobalt, blue, anthracite/dark cold brown and silver) at all times.

Art & Architecture

Drifeyer is a land of art. The blend of elvish and dwarfish culture has brought forth a new form of art, that combines the stone carvings and sculptures of the dwarves with coral, mother of pearl, stained glass and seashell mosaics of the elves.
Drifeyeran music involves a lot of instrumental music made with barley-pipes to mimic the sound of the sea, harp, horn and drums. In the vocal department they use deep humming sounds and chanting as well as lyrics usually sung in a higher, lighter voice. Duets of the typical deep voices of the dwarves and the higher, lighter voices of the elves are very popular too. There is also a genre that only uses humming and chanting without lyrics but with elvish and dwarfish voices that makes for an excellent sound range.
Drifeyans like to use mother of pearl, corals and sandstone for their official buildings as well as actual seashells and stained glass. Of course, there are also houses made from stone and wood and houses on stelts in the water, which is more commonly dwarfish and elvish respectively, but as with everything, Drifeyer has found a hybrid form, that involves sturdy walls and fundaments made by exquisite dwarf craftsmanship and domed or rainbow roofs made from fine elvish materials with skylights, mosaics, mother of pearl or coral inlays. The buildings also commonly have a rough earthy basement. There are also houses built on the shores that extend onto the water. The stone walls are often adorned with intricate dwarfish carvings and tend to have large cone shaped windows. Parts of housing on the water feature a lot of mother of pearl, coral, glass and sand stone.
