Sunless Sea

While there are many bodies of water that are located beneath the earth, the largest one is the Sunless Sea buried deep within the Lost Mountains. Few enter or exit this part of the world, so little is known about this region. Those that claim to have witness the dark expanse of water speak of a cavernous space so large that it has its own weather pattern, raining frigid rain down on a cold ocean dotted with baren islands. Despite its inhospitability, this region is said to be home to a small population that live off of what they can catch and grow, which consists primarily of semi-arctic marine life and frost fungus. They seem to have retained some knowledge from the Age of Divinity to craft large lighthouses that illuminate the inhabited sections of the Sunless Sea, allowing them to survive in the darkness. Beyond The Light, however, only the stories of rare survivors of the Sea of Darkness speak of unseen monstrosities lurking beneath the waves, waiting to capsize whatever vessel dares venture beyond The Light and condemning it to the icy depths.
