Gorthoks Haven

Nestled within the rugged embrace of the Spine of the World, Gorthoks Haven stands as a bastion of orcish resilience. Builti within a tight ravine on a small platau on the side of Blackspire it is a well fortified but hard to access settlement.
Gorthoks Haven is the seat of power of the Blackrock Tribe as orc tribes they are generally quite peaceful. They prefer demonstrating martial prowess through feats of hunt and sport rather than violence and death. They used to be a much larger tribe but after a vicious campaign against Opalhollow many were killed and the tribe decided to persue less violent feats of prowess. They are however still vicious and skilled warriors but are best on the hunting trail rather than pitched battle.

Demographics

Despite its isolated location, Gorthok's Haven thrives with a vibrant sense of community. Families gather around hearth fires, sharing stories and traditions passed down through generations. Taverns echo with the sounds of laughter and song, offering respite from the rigors of mountain life. At the heart of it all stands Gorthok's longhouse, where the chieftain presides over matters of governance and justice, guided by the wisdom of the elders.

Government

Chief Shak Hammerthok rules the tribe with Gorthoks Haven being the seat of power. There is a council of five who advise the chief and do much of the day to day managment. The tribe is small with only a couple other smaller settlement dotting the larger valley Gorthoks Haven abutts. The tribe pay tribute to the chief as a form of taxation. Because trade with the outside world is minimal there is little in the way of gold so the taxation is mostly in the form of goods, foods, or most commonly trophies from hunts of the many beasts that dwell in the Spine of the World.

Defences

A weathered palisade encircles the main entrance to Gorthok's Haven, standing as a testament to the town's determination to defend itself against external threats. Recent repairs and reinforcements indicate that the orcs remain vigilant in maintaining their defenses, ever wary of the dangers lurking beyond their mountain sanctuary. Guards patrol the walls day and night, their keen eyes scanning the surrounding peaks for any sign of trouble.

Industry & Trade

While Gorthok's Haven remains largely self-sufficient, raiding parties occasionally venture out to raid caravans on either side of the mountains bringing exotic goods and news from distant lands. Though this practice has lessened in recent years. Orcish hunters venture into the wilderness, returning with game to supplement the town's provisions. In turn, merchants from neighboring settlements exchange tools, weapons, and other essentials for the valuable resources harvested from the mountains.

Architecture

The buildings of Gorthok's Haven are simple yet robust, crafted from stone and timber harvested from the surrounding wilderness. Each structure is designed to withstand the harsh mountain environment, with sloped roofs to repel snow and sturdy walls to endure the fierce winds that whip through the ravine. Despite their utilitarian nature, there is a crude elegance to their design, reflecting the orcish commitment to practicality and strength. The town's layout is dictated by the natural contours of the ravine, with buildings clustered tightly together along winding pathways carved into the rocky terrain. At the heart of Gorthok's Haven lies a central plaza, where the community gathers for meetings, celebrations, and trade. Surrounding the plaza, smaller market stalls and workshops bustle with activity, offering goods and services crafted by skilled orcish artisans.

Geography

There is a stream that runs through the deep ravine the town is located in that provides the town with a source of fresh water and crude plumbing.
