Logarin

Logarin, called Crymuris by non-venecian Middlandians, is the god of commerce, communication, financial gain and law. First and foremost he is the patron of merchants, administrators, bankers, lawyers and judges but also of thieves and tricksters and thus the most important deity to them.   What's special about the followers of Logarin is, that there are no churches or cloisters dedicated to his worship. His clerics are often involved in governmental administration, heads of banks or trade associations as well as judges. Unlike with other faiths, the clergy has no military arm comparable to orders that fight in the name of other deities and their values.

Depictions

He is mostly depicted as a middle aged human male in enbroided clothing.

North-Men

North-men depict him with a long braided blonde beard and short hair, wearing a green tunic with golden embroidery. Carrying a dagger on his hip. Symbolizing a more martial version than those of other cultures.

Non-venecian Middlandians

While non-venetian Middlandians depict him as a younger, clean shaven, curly haired blonde man clad in a purple tunic. Without a dagger, but with a gilded ledger and a quill, wearing winged shoes. Symbolizing a more sophisticated and administrative focus.

Venecians

Venetians, who are the bulk of Logarians followership in Middland, they have a less consistent depiction of their deity. Varying widely depending on what profession one has. The most significant change are the tools or equipment he carries and the color of the tunic. The most consistent color, however, is red and only messengers and diplomats and sometimes entertainers depict him wearing winged shoes. Venetian merchants, judges, bankers or administrators describe him without wings.

Logarin In Other Cultures

While Logarin is revered in the empire, his followers are persecuted in the gnomish society of Garandor, who see merchants as leeches who try to profit off of honest working Muri, like artisans and peasants. The deity is considered to tempt people into thieving and tricking people for personal gain instead of living a compassionate life like Amrunism preaches.   Only the second largest confession of Amrunism, Ikoko-do, is more lenient with them, since members of that sect are often merchants and transporters themselves and not seldom find themselves protecting and hiding followers of Logarin from bounty hunters, witch hunters and the like.

History

For most part of middlandian history, Ariathne, the Lady of Light, was the most revered deity, but since the Venecians settled in Middland and became the main trade hub of the three continents of Südland, Middland and Nordland, the religion of Logarin became much more influential.   Since the Holy Emperor of the Holy Empire of Middland is simultaneously the head of the church of Ariathne, tensions were exceptionally high between members of those faiths. Culminating in the fifteen-year-war.   During this war the empire was devastated by the destruction it brought, leading to the peace of Aschstadt. The agreement established that every lord or lady can determine what deity is to be worshiped the most on his or her fiefdoms, cementing the Venecian Merchant Council as independent from the authority of the church of Ariathne.
