Oakhaven River Delta

This location is at the southeastern district of Atlantia, its constantly changing. Depending on the snow melt and spring flash floods, the channels shift around over the years. Every decade or so, there is a large monsoon season that even floods the plains on either side of the delta. Anything built in its path can be washed away down to the sea. Even sturdy structures can be demolished.   The river delta is a vast, dynamic, and ever-changing landscape. It is a powerful force of water, sediment, and the resilience of life. It's not a static environment but a living, breathing system constantly reshaped by the river that feeds it.   The defining feature of the Oakhaven Delta is its intricate, constantly reconfiguring network of channels, known as distributaries. It splits into countless smaller arms as it approaches the sea. These channels are the arteries of the delta, carrying water and sediment, but their paths are never truly permanent.   The river has a capricious nature, and the channels are prone to shifting over time for various reasons. Snowmelt from upstream, spring flash floods, and even subtle geological shifts. Old channels can silt up and become stagnant or even dry land, while new ones can be carved out by powerful floodwaters, sometimes overnight. Some channels are deep and fast-moving, suitable for larger boats, while others are shallow, meandering, and slow, only accessible by small, flat-bottomed craft. The speed of the current can vary dramatically, from placid stretches to turbulent rapids during peak flow. The sediment that flows downstream brings rich sediment, fine silts, clays, and sands from its upstream journey. The sediment is the lifeblood of the delta. It consists of alluvial plains, natural levees, mudflats, and sandbars. The delta's water levels are highly unpredictable and a central aspect of life and survival there. There are three seasons to the river: high (flood), normal, and low (dry). There are also tidal influences, since the river empties into the sea, during high tide the delta experiences tidal fluctuations.
