Astrid Luciene

The Apostle of the Dark Goddess, Astrid Luciene

Astrid Luciene was born into the rural noble Luciene family, in the Luciene region of the Holy Kingdom. Unlike her siblings, she did not possess any Holy talent, a trait highly prized by her family and nobility. Instead, Astrid fostered a love of reading and story-writing, a talent that allowed her to entertain herself while being neglected by her family.   As a child, Astrid spent much of her time alone, reading books and crafting her own stories in her head. She was particularly fascinated by the Church of the Holy Light, the dominant religion in her country, and the stories of the Radiant King and the Holy Paladins who fought in his name. However, she often found herself questioning the Church's teachings and the strict ruthless moral code it imposed on its followers. She decided to create a story in her head to entertain herself, one that was about the opposite of everything the Church of the Holy Light and the Radiant King stood for. In her story, a mysterious and powerful entity, The Dark Goddess, preached a message of freedom and chaos. Immersed in her own creation, Astrid self-inserted herself into the story as the Dark Goddess' Apostle.   One day, while wandering home on the roads toward her family estate, Astrid stumbled upon another young girl, Anya, who had escaped from being beaten, abused, and left for dead by the local Church's corrupt officials. Astrid took Anya in and hid her in a hidden and unused room on the fourth floor of her basement. Nursing the girl back to health by herself, the two quickly became inseparable and the closest of friends. As Anya recovered, she told Astrid of the atrocities committed by the Church and her own story of escape. Astrid was shocked and outraged by Anya's tale, and she began to see the Church in a new light.   Yet Astrid couldn't help but notice an opportunity before her. Everything about Anya's tragedy fed perfectly into Astrid's obsession with her story of The Dark Goddess. Excited, Astrid told Anya all about her fantasy, especially about The Dark Goddess and the power the character embodied. Anya was consumed by the tale, but due to Astrid neglecting to inform her of its fictional origin, the girl began to wholeheartedly believe in Astrid's Dark Faith and earnestly worshipped the Dark Goddess.   The two girls spent the next few years practicing magic and honing their skills, all the while secretly "worshipping" the Dark Goddess and plotting their revenge against the Church. But soon, something strange began to happen. Whenever Astrid and Anya invoked the name of the Dark Goddess during their magical practice, a dark energy would surge forth, palpable and almost alive.   At first, Astrid dismissed it as coincidence, but as the occurrences grew more frequent, she could no longer deny that something was happening. All signs indicated that their belief in the Dark Goddess was causing her to truly manifest in the world.   But Astrid knew that that couldn't be. The Dark Goddess was not real, she was just a character in a story that Astrid had created. Worried about something sinister and dangerous happening to her and her best friend, Astrid knew that she had to finally tell Anya the truth,   But before Astrid could confess, a cruel twist of fate revealed itself. The power of the Dark Goddess began to manifest within Astrid and attach itself to her soul. Kept secret from the world in an attempt to restrict its dark power, The Church of the Holy Light had an opposite: a mindless and ancient evil that had been long sealed away. Yet it yearned for escape, and was always looking to discover a means to once again take root in the mortal world, and together, Astrid and Anya had unknowingly provided it with the perfect host identity and form through their belief. Embodying everything of the character Astrid created, The Dark Goddess was now truly alive, and saw Astrid as her creator and most loyal ally.   Now, Astrid must command the evil that she has unleashed, and try to satisfy the Dark Goddess while preventing her from consuming the world. But she knows that, no matter what she does, she can never truly undo the damage that has been done. The Dark Goddess has been born, and there is no turning back.

She has very long, flowing dark hair that falls loosely down to her waist, and piercing green eyes that are often hidden behind her rectangular glasses. Her nose is thin and sharp, and her lips are full and expressive. She has high cheekbones and a sharp jawline, giving her an air of confidence and determination. Despite her youthful appearance, Astrid's face is often marked by a serious and determined expression, reflecting her role as the Apostle of the Dark Goddess and her responsibilities in leading the Cult of the Dark Goddess.

Students are allowed to choose clothing of any color, so long as they are supplied by the school's official provider; Astrid's green blouse and tights are as such a personal choice and reflective of her personality. The long black coat however is an allowed practical addition, as it helps to keep her warm during the colder months. She also thinks it makes her look really cool.

Mental characteristics

Education

Astrid Luciene was tutored at home in the Luciene region for her primary education. She showed little interest in her studies and spent most of her time reading and crafting stories in her head. This frustrated Lord and Lady Luciene, seeing her disinterest and obsession with storybooks as a further insult to her heritage and nobility.   Astrid's parents originally intended for her to continue her education at home with a tutor. They saw no value in sending her to the Capitol Academy in the Holy Capital, as she did not possess any Holy talent and could never become the head of the Luciene family. They planned to wait until her less rebelious brothers, Arthur and Henry, came of age at fourteen to send them to the Capitol Academy instead.   However when she was sixteen, she and her best friend, Anya, used Anya's mind-altering abilities to transfer to the Capitol Academy in the Holy Capital, where they set up their operations and grew the Cult of the Dark Goddess.   As a transfer student at the Capitol Academy, Astrid focused on studying magic and honing her skills. She was determined to become strong enough to control the dark power of the Dark Goddess and prevent it from consuming the world. However, her studies were not easy, as she struggled to balance her responsibilities as the Dark Goddess' Apostle with her desire to keep her true identity a secret. But she persevered and eventually came to appreciate her studies, and balance them with her duties.

Mental Trauma

Astrid Luciene has experienced her own share of trauma, particularly in regards to her lack of Holy talent and the resulting neglect from her family. She has struggled with feelings of inadequacy and worthlessness, and has often felt alone and isolated.   In the past, the guilt and responsibility she feels for the manifestation of the Dark Goddess and the evil that she has unleashed weighed heavily on her mind. But she has since steeled her resolve to play her part to the best of her ability, and to craft her experience into a worthwhile story.   Astrid is a strong and determined individual. She is fiercely intelligent, and uses her cunning and charisma to lead the Cult of the Dark Goddess. She is driven by a desire to protect her friends and followers, and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Anya is motivated by her love for Astrid and her desire to protect her at all costs. She is willing to do anything to make Astrid happy, and will go to great lengths to ensure her safety. She also has a deep hatred for the Holy Church and a desire for revenge against them for the atrocities they committed against her and others. This drives her to plot and scheme, using her powers and abilities to do plenty of morally questionable things in pursuit of her goals and in worship of the Dark Goddess.
