Ernesto Seatguard
Peaceday 5th of Primus, 6017, in the Era Secundus
Ernesto Seatguard (born 8th of Vadum, 5959 of the Era Secundus) is the City Guard General of the City Guard of Hossar. He formerly was also a member and leader of the Irelian Dragoons, the former bodyguard of the King of Irelia.
Early Life
Ernesto Seatguard was born in 5959, as the eldest son of the Seatguard family. As first companions of the Royal Family of Irelia, the family name was often associated with the Irelian Dragoons, the personal guard of the Irelian kings. This reputation hasn't held over though, as by the time of Ernesto's birth, the family had long fallen from their high positions and into poverty.
Thus, from the day he was able to walk, he became focused on becoming able to carry the weight of his name. Though his childhood was relatively uneventful, his adulthood would be less so.
Time with the Irelian Dragoons
5977 would be the year in which an adult Ernesto would finally be allowed to assume his position in the Dragoons, starting off at the very bottom ranks. His first distinguishing act would come during a border dispute with Testrales in 5979, where his captain died during a Testralan charge. Taking point, Ernesto would be the first to take the lead, leading ten Dragoons into the Testralan camp and lighting it on fire, which included all of their food supply. The Testralans were routed and Irelia's border once again secure.
The rest of his career mostly saw him as a High Rider Captain, a leading position under the Dragon of Irelia (the highest rank). This was until he and the Dragon of Irelia came into conflict during a mission into a mysterious dungeon. They had found a powerful magical weapon that was clearly marked by some ancient evil. While Ernesto was of the opinion to either leave it here or to get the Court Mage to destroy it, his superior wanted to use this weapon for himself. After a few weeks of arguing and social maneuvering, the Dragon of Irelia was deposed, with Ernesto taking his position.
The Riversworn Uprising
The first major event of Ernesto's time as Dragon of Irelia came in 5998. The Riversworn Uprising, the major peasant rebellion led by Theodor Riversworn, was ravaging the land, and directly threatening the life of King Jorland the Second. Ernesto, at the news of this rebellion, immediately took the situation by the horns, setting down two main objectives for his Dragoons.
First, they were to keep the capital locked down, with every person coming to the city being supposed to be checked, padded down and disarmed. This was relatively easy, with cooperation of the City Guard.
Second, a small section of the Irelian Dragoons would be assigned to take down the leader of the revolt. Ernesto himself took to the field, leading to an eventual confrontation between him and Theodor. Though Ernesto and his squad almost managed to kill him, they were routed by Theodor's peasant army.
King Jorland would order back Ernesto over the winter, giving him instructions to remain in the capital. Jorland sought protection of his life, although it was in truth already in safe hands.
Thus, the Dragon of Irelia would spend the rest of the Riversworn Uprising behind the security of the city walls, even getting to witness King Jorland leaving Hossar to yield his crown to the rebels.
The Reign of King Zeggor Pyrehide
Receiving new instructions from Jorland to serve the new king faithfully, Ernesto would offer his services to Zeggor. The new king would accept, much to the protest of Theodor Riversworn. Ernesto would immediately be assigned to the task of securing the legitimacy of the King in Hossar, doing tons of speeches, political maneuvering and the occasional beating of loyalists. He would also work with Theodor on securing the country against banditry, where the two men discovered just how much they had in common: Fine wine, beard care, and the art of fighting.
Not much else would come for the Irelian Dragoons for a large part of Zeggor's reign, until the month Morpheus of 6016. The Irelian Dragoons would lose their status as guardians of the Throne, being replaced by the Steel Guard, Ogre mercenaries in heavy armor. With this, Ernesto would also lose his position on the side of the King, though his skills would still be needed.
Reassignment to City Guard General
King Zeggor found him a new position, and Ernesto would take over as City Guard General. This was a painful demotion, though Ernesto quickly took it on the chin and got to work to get used to the position. Advised by the 10 Guard Captains of Hossar and Royal Executioner Hargon, Ernesto made sure that crime and degeneracy would be lowered to a minimum in Hossar. This has worked fairly well, as of 6017.
He would meet the Arcane Blades adventuring party in the month of Myra, being introduced to them by Melvis Enhorn leading their arrival with the announcement of a "vampire diplomat". Needless to say, he has not much of an fan of the group, though he has reportedly "met worse".
