Kumah

Kumah, the Flesh, shares her name with the Zelayan homeworld. She is the aspect of Kainat Ana, the Cosmic Mother, that serves as the Flesh of her body from which all life springs. Together with her lover Urek, Kumah is seen as the creator and sustainer of all life on the planet which is her body and Flesh, Zelayan, plant, and animal.   The surface of Kumah was a rich red, as is the skin of the great Cosmic Mother. In many ways the Zelayans regard Kumah as the most vital of the aspects of Kainat Ana, as it is the one that is also the place on which their ancestors lived.   Kumah is also wrapped in tragedy. When the tragedy of the Infinite Sorrow, the burning of Kumah, struck, all of the Zelayans on Yorth felt an agonizing pain of loss and guilt. While her Flesh burns, Kainat Ana has hidden herself almost entirely from the Zelayans, her aspects no longer coming to them as they did in the stories of old.   The central goal of Zelayan society is to discover here on Yorth (called Yer in Zelayan), which they view as something of an estranged father-figure to their culture, any artifacts or holy sites which may help them in their quest to put out Kumah's fires, heal her wounds, and return again to the bosom of her love.   Kumah is closely associated with the Tüklü people, who are tall, broad-limbed, and full of passion. In ancient tales, Kumah was depicted as a tall Tüklü woman, red of skin and hair, who relished in the passionate love of her partner, Urek.   The devout of Kumah practice the domains of Life, Nature, Blood, and the Grave.
