CyDoc
Subject: CyDoc Profession Analysis and Regulation
File ID: PROF-CDOC-1994
Issuing Authority: Dryzor Corp. - Occupational Standards Division
Document Category: Professions/Medical/Cybernetic Specialty
Security Classification: Regulated Access
Introductory Overview: Cybernetic Specialty Doctors, commonly referred to as CyDocs, are a critical component of societal infrastructure within nations classified as first and second-world. A CyDoc is a highly trained professional equipped with specialized knowledge and equipment, enabling them to safely subtract organic material from a patient's anatomy and subsequently replace or augment it with mechanical or synthetic organic devices. They are the mandated point of contact for all procedures involving cybernetic or synth-organ installation and maintenance.
Some CyDocs are integrated into established medical facilities, focusing their practice on critical care, such as the replacement of aggressively removed or severely damaged limbs and organs. Conversely, many practitioners establish independent clinics or shops within permanent settlements to directly service the local populous. A significant portion of the profession is also employed by large corporations specializing in these services, operating out of advanced office complexes staffed with personnel dedicated to cybernetic design, installation, and repair.

//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... Karckess on the fine print. //>_ The Corp-Rats are talking about mandated points of contact, which is dreck. They mean expensive points of contact. If you need a chrome arm, you stride into a doc shop. If you’re short on creds, you find a Chip Head who knows their way around a scalpel and a power outlet, because the legal route will clean out your Thuds. The big difference is that the official doctors are loyal to Dryzor Corp. and the LSN's registry, while the other kind... well, they aren't wearing the Executioner's collar yet, which is a big plus in my book.
Career
Qualifications
Attainment of official CyDoc status necessitates the completion of a rigorous, multi-year training program culminating in a Doctorate of Cybernetic Organic Science and Practice (COSP). To maintain professional standards and oversight, many regional governing bodies require CyDocs to join an established professional guild.
Career Progression
To qualify for a COSP Doctorate, an aspiring CyDoc must complete a mandatory apprenticeship. This requires a minimum duration of seven years (dependent on the species' lifespan and growth rate) spent operating as an assistant under the direct supervision of a fully certified CyDoc.
Payment & Reimbursement
CyDocs operate on a self-regulated rate structure. The pricing of their services directly correlates with the quality of their provided equipment and the perceived expertise of the practitioner. Fees can range significantly, from a few units of physical gold clat to several dozen units of high-value mythril.
Perception
Purpose
The fundamental purpose of the CyDoc profession is the expert installation and integration of all standard cybernetic components and synthetic organic replacements.
Social Status
The certified CyDoc holds a high degree of respect within most communities, often viewed as highly skilled masters integrating technology, medicine, and, frequently, arcane principles. Ripper Docs, however, are perceived as having fallen from grace, viewed as mad doctors who prioritize wealth acquisition by any means, even the most underhanded. They are viewed with suspicion and fear by the general public.
Operations
Workplace
Professional CyDocs generally operate out of one of three primary environments: independently owned and operated offices, established hospital facilities, or large, guild-run corporate office buildings designed for high-volume service provision.
Provided Services
- Standard Cybernetic and Synth-Org Installation
- Cybernetic Maintenance and Repair

Alternative Names

Demand
In Tier 3 nations, CyDocs are in high demand. In Tier 2 nations, they are is a reasonable need for them. In Tier 1 nations, CyDocs are an uncommon and often rare sight.
Legality
Legal operation as a CyDoc requires the individual to possess a verified Doctorate in Cybernetic Organic Science and Practice, or COSP. This certification is the minimum mandatory standard for professional practice. Any individual claiming the title of CyDoc without a valid COSP Doctorate is deemed an illegal practitioner and is frequently referred to by the derogatory term "Back-alley CyDoc." A specific subsection of these uncertified individuals who engage in transactions involving illicit cybernetic parts sourced from @CySkav-Harvesters are formally labeled as Ripper Docs.
//>_ Hacker_Override_Initiated... Karckess on the names you wear. //>_ Ripper Docs. The official word on the LSN is that they're the rotters who deal with the CySkav. That's a feather-soft lie. A Ripper Doc is anyone who doesn't kiss the ring and follows the rules of the guild. Sure, they might perform illegal operations with black-market chrome and are rumored to conduct 'experimental' procedures—which is just code for schiz, less-than-ethical methods—but they also keep the lights on for the average trog who can't afford the Corp-Rat prices. They are dangerous, yes, but they are also essential. They are masters of the trade who have simply fallen from grace in the eyes of the slither-spined suits.
