Boton (BOW-tun)
Boton is an unassociated (and prior to HY 1147, unoccupied) island sitting on the southern edge of Agelua, very close to the Tempest Sky-Sea and the Dark Expanse that trails the long side of the continent. Because of its proximity to the Bejeweled Reach, it has been used by the Holy Kingdom of Agni as a forward base for expeditions into the as-yet uncharted area.
Because it is lacking in resources, the island was often seen as just another uninteresting piece of the Broken World. However, scarcely six months had passed since the island's significance in relation to a mysterious new frontier, and the island finds itself populated by nearly 900 people.
Geography
Boton is an island mostly made of flat and arable soil. The island is flat save for a large hill that crests towards the northeast, facing the Bejeweled Reach (upon which is the Infinite Horizon tavern). Most airship infrastructure was established in early HY 1147.
Ecosystem
Because the island is nondescript, Boton only has common Ageluan flora and fauna, and even that in low numbers. Boton has no precious metals or notable materials, and is used solely because of its proximity to the Bejeweled Reach.
Natural Resources
Boton has no real natural resources. Possessed of fair weather and a relatively flat landscape, it made the perfect staging ground for expeditions into a new and untested region.
History
Prior to recognising the importance of the Bejeweled reach, only the Holy Kingdom of Agni and Praya contested the territory, though Praya's claim diminished as it fought a civil war against revolutionaries and the Agnias Adventurer's Guild established a forward base in the island with the assistance of the Agnias Navy.
