Eel'sen

Eel'sen is a village loacted in Slumber County of the island of Elzai in Fehadla within Sen dale.   Compared other villages, Eel'sen stands out as it is a village comprised of nobles and their entourage. Built around and within the old Cliff Deep Castle, the home of Duke Alexis Vandraye and the two Barons, Ravi Redsteel and Delvir Hawkblood. Cliff Deep also contains a small permanent detachment of 31 soldiers from the Llide Regiment who regularly patrol the area, ensuring the security of the Duke and the Sen dale. Due to its craggy terrain, many bandits and outlaws hide in this area.   Those who live in the village are either servants, fishermen, or personal guards for the nobles. Two Knights also reside in the village; they heed every word of the Duke and carry out his commands. The village does have an Eld who acts more as a liaison between the regular folk and the nobles. His name is Bracken Kren.

Governence and districts:

The village is governed by the knights and the Eld, both of whom report to either Baron Delvir Hawkblood or the Duke himself. There are two distinct areas within Eel'sen: Cliff Deep and the Village. Cliff Deep encompasses the residences of the Duke and the Barons as well as Cliff Deep Castle itself, while the village contains the servants' and fishermen's quarters, Knights' residences, and the village hall, which serves as the Eld's residence.

Defence:

The small detachment of Llide soldiers stationed in Cliff Deep Castle serve as the village's guards, along with some of the noble's personal guards and Knights. This makes the village rather formidable, and in times of attack, the village residents retreat into Cliff Deep to find sanctuary inside its sturdy keep.
Eel'sen has got to be the dullest station. Its full of puffed up Eastfolk with to much money to know what to do with. There's no tavern, no shop, even the outlaws are too scared to attack here.   This place is truly the most boring. So you will be pleased mother, I am more at risk getting killed by one of the Barons son's than bandits.
  • Letter from a corporal in the army back home
  • However it seems that the bandits nearby are building their strength possibly even preparing for an attack.

    Geography and trade:

The village is situated next to the entrance to Lake East, with the castle originally built to defend that entry point. The village's name, Eel'sen, is derived from its primary export, the eels that inhabit the lake just offshore. Consequently, these eels and other marine resources became the Village's main export, also providing a reliable food source. Those who did not work as handmaids or servants, particularly the younger villagers, are employed in the fisheries.   The surrounding region of Sen dale is hilly and craggy making it unsuitable for farming and for the development of a larger settlement.
