Session XV
General Summary
The party begins the heist of the tablet in earnest.
Missions/Quests Completed
Thalobir offered the party the help of four people who could be of use with the heist. Xior Flintclaw, a leonin master thief who had recently retired, Kithrie and Milo Tosscobble, halfling siblings working as smugglers, and Hadley Lighthand, a human illusionist down on his luck. The party declined all three options and set out to steal the tablet on their own.
They split up, as they are prone to do, and set out to cause some more trouble. One group disguised itself as scholars from the University with Dolmir posing as a professor of Dwarven history and convinced the museum staff to let them inspect the tablet. They learned the tablet gets teleported into the museum by a wizard every morning and back to the University every evening. They also learned that it is protected by a number of spells while on display, including a strong antimagic field, a high-level necromancy spell, a medium-strength conjuration spell, and a minor illusion spell obscuring the writing on the tablet. They let the museum staff know they will be back that evening before the item gets teleported to prepare it for travel.
Meanwhile, Darius wandered around the city and got into a fight with a couple of local bandits. He managed to defeat most of them, but then the town guard arrived. Some of the guards chased one of the bandits who had run away, but one stayed and tried to arrest Darius, who promptly slaughtered him.
The party reconvened and discussed their next step, but couldn't come to a meaningful decision. They sent Thalobir to get the Tosscobbles ready with their boat, so they can smuggle the tablet out of the town and decided to try stealing it that night, disguised as museum employees.
