The Crowns

The Crowns are four major islands in a small island chain to the north of Amastris. These islands have remained a loosely neutral but contested area between the Radians and the Therans since the Conquest of the Dawn. The people of the Crowns are a strange cultural blend of Theran and Radian, with a uniquely heavy emphasis on sailing. These Vikeengrier are sometimes referred to as 'vikings' in the common parlance and are known for their fluctuating loyalties, seamanship, and their sporadic raids along the entire northern reach of the continent.

Geography

The islands are remarkably varied given the small land mass. They feature steep mountain cliffs, boggy swamps, and thick pine rainforests.   The southernmost and largest island is known as Harviken. It features mostly temperate rainforests and small inland lakes. Old growth forests make it difficult to traverse too deeply inland and locals know not to peer too deeply into those dark woods. The largest settlement here is Burford, well known for its sailors, whalers, and loggers. A spiritual people, they hold a strong reverence for nature deities and pay homage to the sea regularly.
The northernmost and second largest island is Undvik. The island here is colder and less lush than its southern counterpart. Prone to harsh snow-covered winters and dry summers, the land is more unforgiving to those unprepared. The Vikeengriers here are temperamental, quick to draw sword against strangers, and less ready to welcome outsiders into their homes.

Fauna & Flora

The islands are home to a diverse range of natural life. Cedars, ferns, and mountains grasses are common on the southern islands, while evergreens, lichens, and berries are plentiful on the northern islands. Animal life is bountiful with salmon, bears, ungulates, and coastal wolves (as well as various dire varieties). Monsters appear as well but are very reclusive, with some considered myths unto themselves. Dragons have been noted throughout the centuries but are given a wide berth. Aquatic monsters such as shaugin and sirens are also fairly common.

Natural Resources

The islands are well known for their rich old growth forests which are used for lumber and ship building. However, agricultural land is relatively scarce, so foraging is common amongst smaller villages. Salmon and other fish commonly run the rivers for spawning, allowing a reliable food source for locals as well. Iron mines are plentiful in the mountains which helps support the material development of the islands.
