Kooshdaa Khaa

The "forest-men of spirits" are a semi-mythical creature that live in the thick northern rainforests of the Crowns. The Kooshdaa Khaa are a reclusive humanoid-like species that attempt to avoid contact with humans but can be a real threat if they feel cornered.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Khooshdaa Kaah are large, bipedal, ape-like creatures, a vaguely similar mix between a humanoid and a beast. They stand between 7 to 8 feet tall but they are often reported to reach 10 feet tall. They possess long arms which swing close to the knees.

Ecology and Habitats

These creatures prefer the rainforests of The Crowns. Thick forests and mountainous terrain are where they keep themselves, though rumours of their presence in the continent's interior forests persists.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Khoosdaa Khaa are omnivorous and subsist on a variety of foods. Primarily, they prefer mountain berries and vegetation but are known to eat fish and will occasionally hunt meat. Myths persist from locals that they will kidnap children and lone huntsmen but these remain largely unverified.

Additional Information

Social Structure

These creatures are widely known to be extremely solitary in nature. They never intentionally seek out human or sapient contact unless driven by intense urge for survival. If seen in groups, it is likely to be a family unit consisting of a mother, father and a single offspring.

Average Intelligence

They are intuitive about how and when to avoid human contact. While strange wooden structures are reported in isolated areas, how these structures are linked to the Khosshdaa Khaa remains unverified. Remarkably, the druids of the crowns say that speaking Slyvan or Druidic to them causes them pause before they retreat again.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Khooshdaa Khaa are primarily a nocturnal species and, as such, they have superior darkvision, able to see even in total darkness. While capable of seeing during the day, they only appear in daylight when travelling long distances for new territory.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Older specimens are reported to have greenish tones to their hair, suggesting that algae can grow in their mattes of long thick hair.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Khooshdaa Khaa literally translates from Crowner to "forest-man of spirits"

History

The Khooshdaa Khaa are well respected by the local inhabitants of The Crowns. They remain an important part of a unique culture and are treated as guardian spirits of the forest depths. Myths and folklore surrounding them date back to time immemorial and are treated more as loose facts rather than actual myth. Foreigners from both the The Radiant Empire and the Kingdom of Thera attempt to dispel these myths but the Crowners remain adamant in their beliefs. These myths are represented by ceremonial masks worn by locals in seasonal festivities. These masks highlight a range of these creature's personalities, which may be anything from the reclusive protector to vengeful spirit.

In more recent times, Crowners have become much more wary of telling the local myths to outsiders, believing that spreading these stories to outsiders invites Khooshdaa Khaa vengeance.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Khooshdaa Khaa abstain from humanoid contact as much as possible. In distant ranges, hunters and frontiersman report stories of camp raids and distant howls and screams but these hunters wisely do not pursue.
