Grand-Duchy of Akitania

A large and wealthy country to the south of the Duchy of Letha and the Duchy of Anjev , swearing fealty to the 5Kingdom of Logres

Structure

The Grand-Duchy of Akitania is a powerful feudal state, ostensibly pledging fealty to the Gallian Crown, but its wealth, size and significant cultural and political ties to other powerful entities allow it to often exist as a de-facto independent state. The Grand-Duchy pays a regular tribute and gives ceremonial deference to the Kind in Per-Ys, but it typically forges its own path.   At the center of the Sovereignty is the Grand-Duc of Akitania and Vasconia, the Northern and Southern halves of the long-unified domain respectively. The Grand-Dug wields an immense amount of power, second only, or perhaps surpassing at times, the King of Gallia. The Grand-Dug always directly rules over the Captal of Buch as their seat, but often holds other titles and holdings throughout the larger region. Administration across the large region is carried out by a network of seneschals, castellans and other ministers.   Local regional Nobility and Gentry oversee increasingly smaller divisions of land and political power, interspersed with independent free-cities and ecclesiastical holdings. However, compared to its neighbors and trading partners to the North, Akitania allows very little overt authority to its merchant class cities, fearing a repeat of the disastrous Dock War. As a result, the nobility is seen as one of the most powerful in Kornôgel. Noble power is event stronger in rural Vasconia to the South, far from the tight control of the urban North.

Public Agenda

Aquitania has shifted politcally in the past few hundred years between fealty to the Crowns of Gallia and Logres through marriages and political alliances. Wealthy and powerful, it maintains a level of self-autonomy and independence, and is often viewed as the most desirable Duchy to control due to its vast resources, temperate climate and magical stability.

Assets

Aquitainia is one of the wealthiest nations in the area, rich in gold, wine and food, rivaling Gallia itself. It controls several major rivers and ports, including Karregennig is the largest on the continent and boasts and impressive fleet of ships and skyships.   In terms of territorial size, it is one of the largest regions, equaling Tolosa and Arle

It is accessible by a tidal road. The island, known for its exceptionally moderate climate, is also called the Island of the Mimosas, for the yellow shrubs that bloom deep into winterrule. The island is made up of salt marshes, sandy dunes and oak forests. The island is a major source of copper and hosts the Black Abbey, a monastery of the Faith made of dark stones. A small castle sits on the island. The island also produces saffron, an incredible luxury. The Bay of Letha is a hotbed of smuggling between Akitania and Letha.
  • Enez-Yeu
  • A small island in the Mor Bras, connected by a natural rocky bridge that appears at low tide, constructed in one night by a summoned entity (the identity varies depending on the teller), according to local legend. Before the bridge was finished however, the rooster crowed, signalling the end of the night and the nullification of the bargain. The final stretch between the island and the mainland is submerged except at the lowest tide. It has two harbors: Port Joinville in the North, which houses the tuna fishing fleet, and Port de la Meule in the South, hidden in a rocky inlet in a granite cliff, which specializes in lobster fishing. The island was settled by Sidhe from Fortunate Isles , but they were driven out during the Fomorian raids of the 8th and 9th centuries. House Klisson, from the Biskonti Retz , established a stone castle on the island, replacing a wooden fortress used to protect the channel from pirates.

  • Viscounty of Thouars

-A result of this geographic position, Thouars is exceptionally well-fortified and defended, the lynchpin of Akitania's entire North. It has long been contested by Akitania, Anjevin, Gallian and Lethaned ambitions, resulting in numerous wars, raids and occupations across its long history.   Geography

Entirely landlocked, it sits between the Akitanian vassals of Montaigu, Talmont, Quatre-Fontaines, Poitou, Mirebeau, and Loudon, resting in the center as if cradled by a bowl. This central location makes Thouars crucial for the control of the region, as almost all trade and communication between these regions must past through or over it.
