Tovag
Overview:
The Tovag Feyn are the most fearsome and physically imposing of their kind, embodying the brutal finality of death. Originating from the Land of the Dead, they are warriors without fear, driven by a primal connection to the ancient, wild forces of nature. Their presence in Alterran, particularly in the northern wilderness, has solidified their reputation as relentless guardians and brutal enforcers of the Feyn's will.
Role in Chernayan Society:
In Chernaya, the Tovag are the stuff of nightmares. They are whispered about in fearful tones, believed to be invincible monsters that emerge from the northern forests to wreak havoc on those who venture too close. Their reputation as brutal, merciless warriors keeps most Chernayans at bay, and they are rarely seen by those outside the northern regions. When they do engage with humans, it is usually in violent raids or in defense of their territory.
Interaction with Other Feyn:
The Tovag have a strained but respectful relationship with the Chatillians, recognizing their shared origins but differing greatly in their methods and outlook. They typically have little to do with the Meliae, viewing them as too soft and deceitful for their tastes. However, they protect the Meliae's sacred meadow in the Tovag Baragu, seeing it as part of their duty to safeguard them and their mysterious function in the process of Feyn being "born" into bodies in the Second World. They are typically outright bigoted towards Karlu-Chatil, seeing them as little better than humans, and in some senses, potentially worse.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Tovag resemble a terrifying blend of man and beast, akin to a krampus or werewolf. They stand anywhere from large human-sized to truly monstrous, with the ability to grow in size when enraged. Their bodies are covered in dark, coarse fur, and they possess sharp, bestial features, including fangs and claws. Their eyes burn with an inner fire, reflecting their connection to the raw power of death. Unlike other Feyn, the Tovag cannot alter their forms significantly but can enhance their size and strength, consuming vast amounts of energy in the process.
Behaviour
The Tovag are fierce, aggressive, and highly distrustful of outsiders. Among their own kind, they are boisterous and communal, valuing strength, loyalty, and the warrior’s code above all. Their magic is ancient and primal, deeply rooted in dark, pagan traditions that allow them to channel destructive forces and bend nature to their will. They exist in tightly-knit, warrior-focused communities in the remote forests and mountains of the north, far from human civilization. Their stronghold is in the Tovag Baragu around the House of Bones, a massive fortress built within an ancient arrowood tree, guarding the only known active gate between Alterran and the Land of the Dead. They maintain a strict hierarchy, with the strongest warriors leading and the rest bound by an unspoken code of honor. The Tovag are deeply connected to their ancestral land, seeing themselves as its eternal protectors.
