Miracle Honey

Miracle honey is a widely-used sleep aid across Altairus. Coming from the Blade Bee Badlands, blade bees, normally violent and xenophobic, have managed to integrate themselves into the larger framework of Altairian society by marketing this substance produced within their bodies.

Usage

Take approximately one tablespoon at bedtime for fast results. Warning: Do not exceed one tablespoon per six hours.
— Instructions for use on the label

For those over 18 years of age, approximately one tablespoon of miracle honey at bedtime nearly guarantees a deep and sound sleep. Lower doses are used for those under 18, and parents are advised to seek medical advice before giving miracle honey to children under 5.

It is imperative that one does not exceed one tablespoon per six hours. Any more than this amount can put someone in a deep sleep for days, even weeks at a time. Commonly, those administering this medicine will dose it at just under one tablespoon, in case of a miscalculation.

There has been speculation that Rip Van Winkle was put to sleep via an overdose of miracle honey. However, this is mere speculation. There exist many different sleep aid spells in Altairus, and any one of them could have been used.

Controlled Status

Miracle honey is classified as a controlled substance in many parts of Altairus. It is technically a narcotic, and a particularly habit-forming one at that. Miracle honey dependence manifests as an inability to sleep without the substance, tremors, itching, and a short temper. While not usually deadly, it is a difficult habit to kick.

Dependence is so common in some parts of Altairus (notably less wealthy areas like the Nursery Rhyme District) that there have been clinics set up specifically to deal with miracle honey addiction. These clinics became overwhelmed in the wake of The War of the Wendigoes as Altairians turned to miracle honey to deal with the emotional burden of the War.
