Fire Nettle
Typhonic fire nettle is a medicinal plant that is found in the volcanic wastes of the Typhonic Plains. Imbued with the fiery energy of the plains, fire nettle has many unique properties that solidify its place in Altairian medicine and potion-making.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Fire nettle is very similar to stinging nettle in appearance. It has red, serrated leaves covered in furry stinging barbs, clustered around short stems in groups of three.
While it is most commonly red, variants with gold, orange, and even blue leaves exist. The ones with blue leaves are the most potent and painful to be stung by.
Genetics and Reproduction
Fire nettles are unique in that their seeds can only be cracked by high temperatures. Once germinated, their seeds grow rapidly, breaking through rocks to grow and reproduce before the lava kills them.
Ecology and Habitats
Fire nettle can only grow in areas with an abundance of Fire magic. It is a very hardy plant, requiring little water to grow, but it tends to live fast and die early. It tends to do best in an area rich in minerals, like its native Typhonic Plains.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Fire nettle venom contains an abundance of Fire magic, as one could guess by the name. Those who are stung by this plant have their skin flare up in a painful, hot rash that lasts for several hours.
While this is painful, fire nettle venom has some legitimate medicinal purposes. The Fire magic contained within can burn away disease, much like the Fragment of Fire, Yuuki. When brewed into an herbal infusion and ingested, the fire nettle attacks any invaders or strange growths the drinker may have. In addition, it warms the entire body and improves circulation, which may help to stave off hypothermia and frostbite. Those traveling through the Howling Range will keep casks of fire nettle tea for this express purpose.
