Charlie Hatter

Charles Hatter I's old hat is a little too big on Charlie's head. It drops down onto his forehead, partially obscuring his eyes and casting them in shadow. Stylistically, when he is particularly upset, the shadow will hide his eyes completely.

His right eye is a pale blue due to a loss of pigmentation. Some playground bullies christened it his "crazy eye," and even now some crueler folk call it his "mad eye." The latter really tends to get under his skin, as he sees it as them making fun of his grandfather, too.

Like all Puca, Charlie has the ability to shapeshift. When morphed, he keeps his hat. The fur on his head will be dyed, but everywhere else it will be his natural hair color.

Sometimes, he uses his morphing powers for his job. One of his most common forms is a tree-dwelling monkey, which he uses to pluck the best leaves from high-growing tea trees in certain parts of the Cha Plains.

When out and about, Charlie has a habit of wearing his late grandfather's infamous hat, complete with the mercury tag. He also frequently wears his grandfather's old cloak. The fact that both seem to be a bit too big for him paints a terrifying picture of how tall Charles Hatter I really was...

Charlie was born in Silverneedle Town in the late Golden Era, just when Hatter Co. was just starting to take off. He spent much of his childhood in Silverneedle Town, but he would frequently go on trips with his grandfather, Charles Hatter I, to learn more about the world. It was on these trips that he met his two best friends and later business partners, Harold Marz (a.k.a. "March Hare") and Dorothy Mauskin (a.k.a. "Dormouse").

From an early age, he knew he would someday play an integral role in managing Hatter Co.. In his teen years, he began experimenting with making his own blends, some of which made it onto the shelves. When he turned 20, he began mixing and tasting professionally.

Despite all he had going for him, however, things quickly took a turn for the worse. After the first Wendigo attacks in 2100, a mere 76 years after Charlie had begun his tenure (which seems like a lot, but remember, these are faeries we're talking about), his grandfather became obsessed with attaining complete immortality. He thought that, if he could get an immortality serum, he could give it to his family to protect them from getting killed.

Unfortunately, the means he took involved taking trace amounts of mercury with his tea every day. By doing this, he theorized, he could immunize himself against the poison - and against death in general. This worked about as well as one would expect.

Towards the end of his life, Charles Hatter I had become severely demented, to the point where his former colleagues began to know him as the "mad" Hatter. It was at this point where Charlie took over Hatter Co., as it was obvious his grandfather couldn't do it anymore. Charles Hatter I died a few scant days later.

To this day, Charlie has taken full responsibility for his grandfather's company. It's not easy, but he takes it day by day.

Certainly, having to see his beloved grandfather's mind decay from his own choices was not an easy thing for Charlie. To this day, he gets sensitive talking about it. He loses his temper when someone insinuates that either he or his grandfather is/was "mad."
