Spear End (Speer - Ehnd)
The capital of Western Elos, situated near the shoreline atop a large hill. The city is defended by high walls, and any incoming ships must utilize the canal between the ocean and the city, rising up several locks and being pulled through the nearly-windless city by the guards. This layer of defense from pirate raids has allowed Spear End to become a fortress.
The city is known for its gothic, stonework architecture, with high, pointed roofs and tall, imposing buildings. The city's skyline is dominated by a single building known as the Keep, a large, cross-shaped building with a tall square tower covered in windows. A set of large wooden double doors lead into an even larger entry hall, the polished marble floor reflecting the tall pillars and painted ceiling. Higher in the tower are many offices and meeting rooms for several reputable companies based in the city.
The main street of the city is the main hub of commerce, during the day flooded with pedestrians and vendors, and the numerous restaurants lining the city often have their outdoor seating booked days in advance. The most famous of these restaurants, the Tipped Scale, has seats that are especially sought after. The restaurant is home to one of the last remaining dragons in the Western hemisphere, where the tiny dragon chef Kelric serves Crème Brûlée, charring the top at the table.
The city was nearly destroyed by Captain Briggs's crew launching a large-scale invasion, but Mooney Suess's pirate crew managed to kill the dread pirate before he could do any major damage. The pirates acquired the artifact locked in the magical vault of the Keep, the legendary instrument known as the Killtar.
Notable companies based in Spear End include Versand Shipping and the Tipped Scale Bar and Grill.
