Mount Amaro
This giant volcano had for much of the Varisian's time remained active, pouring lava and ash down its sides and making habitation near impossible. The arrival of the Shets'doma brought with it a settling of the mountain's activity and colonization was considered. However, Ardus decided it would make the perfect home for mages and the start of a magical university for Alphatia. It was decreed that any mage could establish a home on the mountain as long as they did not claim ownership of more than a half-mile radius or intrude on another mage’s land. Since then a number of towers and dungeons have been built over the mountain.
Geography
The mountain had been silent for many years, establishing a thriving ecosystem across its slopes, with many waterfalls during storms, and inhabited with the strange entities summoned or breed by the wizards whose towers were dotted across it.
That all changed with the gigantic explosion that ripped through the mountain. The tiny caldera at its peak had been capped for many generations and caused this explosion to blow the eastern side of the mountain away creating a massive crater. Many of the more powerful wizards were able to save their towers creating floating islands above the crater.
Within the crater itself, the strange life of the island has found a sanctuary, becoming more stable as the new lakes and rivers of the island become more stable and hold the rain that falls on the island more effectively.
Fauna & Flora
Mt Amaro is almost devoid of flora. A small number of scraggy trees dot the landscape. Some of the mages are beginning to develop gardens in and around their homes on the mineral rich volcanic soil. Fauna on the island is also restricted. A small number of summoned monsters wander the landscape; around a now ruined tower horrible mutations exist converted by an evil abjurer stopped by brother mages. Around the goblin and dwarven strongholds patrols of these races keep a constant vigil against attacks from the others.
Natural Resources
Mt Amaro produces very little, the Dwarven tribe keeps mostly to themselves becoming untrustworthy of the wacky humans that populate Mt Amaro and their out of control spells. The mages while available for training at times spend most of their time competing against each other. Most foods are imported. The small town is a meeting place of the bizarre as traders sell their fantastic and unique wares.
