The Academy

The Solius Academy is the premier institute of magical research and study, across the years it has admitted and graduated many of the finest minds in the world of wizardry, but it also has institudions dedicated to other aspects of the lives of the mortal and immortal races. The academy district of Dagrun is home to the nine spires, large towers and surrounding buildings making compounds dedicated to the study and practice of the various forms of magic: Illusion, Evocation, Abjuration, Conjuration, Enchantment, Transmutation, Golemancy, Artifice, and the Named Arts.

Demographics

The academy district, while being part of Dagrun as a whole, has a fair degree of autonomy due to the Solius Richter being part of the city council almost by default. Because of this there is a strong prescence of students and faculty, though the entire district is a microcosm of the city as a whole, as the academy is in constant need of supplies for study and... testing.

Government

Academy staff and faculty are responsible for creating order amongst themselves and students, but outsider citizens are subject to the laws and regulations of the city, and guards and prosecutors are present.

Defences

As all the other district in Dagrun, the academy district is surrounded by a wall that spearates the districts.  In addition to the walled defenses, each spire has unique quirks of construction that make for good defense and offense by being used as places of enhanced casting or being impervious to projectiles, or being able to move the other spires.

Infrastructure

The different Colleges have their own distinct style of architecture and all have their own facilities.   The Armored Spire of the College of Abjuration   The Clockwork Spire of the College of Artifice   The Pearlescent Spire of the College of Conjuration   The Crystalline Spire of the College of Divination   The Jeweled Spire of the College of Enchantment   The Radiant Spire of the College of Evocation   The Wandering Spire of the College of Golemancy   The Iridescent Spire of the College of Illusion   The Transient Spire of the College of Transmutation   The Resplendant Spire of the College of Named Arts   Despite the differences in construction, there are some overall similarities, each spire has an entrance hall that connects to an auditorium, mess hall and living quarters, the upper floors are dedicted to scriptoria and experimentation areas. Offices and rooms for faculty are also here, though for the most part they remain unoccupied as the more powerful wizards prefer to have their own space.   Differences in needs do still occur, as the Radiant Spire has many balconies and open areas around it for practicing minds, whereas artificers require much more access to materials and tools replacing scriptoria with workshops more akin to blacksmith's or jeweler's shop.

Architecture

The spires themselves as well as the nearby areas to them are all unique in their design and construction, and they are as follows:   The Armored Spire is covered in metal plates that are engraved with many sigils of protection, nearby student houses and shops are similarly built with very sturdy foundations and simple, functional designs.   The Clockwork Spire, as the name would imply, is covered in brass contraptions both magical and mundane that indicate various pieces of information, the temperature, a calendar, and a massive clock on top that can be seen from almost anywhere else in Dagrun, a set of moving platforms take people from the ground floor up and all around the tower from the outside. The local area nearby to the spire holds the most places where one can find magical items, to such a degree that there are specialty shops dedicated to specific item types. Most buildings have some sort of clockwork mechanism: drawbridges, platform systems, automatic doors, etc.   The Pearlescent Spire derives its name from its shiifting appearance in color, its many floors and caged terraces giving ample space for conjurers to do as they seem fit in their studies and experimentation. Due to the somewhat independent nature of some conjurations there are failsafes installed within the tower, as well as the surrounding area. The pearlescent material that the tower is made of is also made into a glass and found in nearby houses.   The Crystalline Spire is almost completely translucent, first time onlookers may find to difficult to parse its true size due to its transparency. It is almost completely see through though the insides are not visible, so as to maintain some semblance of privacy.   The Jeweled Spire of the College of Enchantment as its name may suggest, is covered in gems and precious metals of many different designs and shapes, or at least one would think so if they were not careful, some of the designs are made to tempt onlookers into looking at them as such when in truth sometimes they are little more than iron and glass.   The Radiant Spire of the College of Evocation illuminates the surrounding areas at all times, as the school of evocation requires substantially more land for adequate practice, there are many open spaces in and around where fire, lightning and other magical energies and projectiles are thrown around.   The Wandering Spire of the College of Golemancy, uniquely and as its name may suggest is not a fixed structure as it is mounted on several "legs" that make it able to walk around the larger streets if necessary, though it usually stays in the designated grounds.   The Iridescent Spire of the College of Illusion from a distance, appear to be regular brick and stone, which is accurate except for the fact that as one approaches the structure itself begins to change colors, which in itself is a distraction from the fact that the tower itself is invisible and what most people see is merely an illusion.   The Transient Spire of the College of Transmutation is unique in its construction as it changes what it is made of on regular intervals, from bronze to glass, to wood to iron to regular brick and stone.   The Resplendant Spire of the College of Named Arts, the more traditional of all the spires, since there is little specialization there are some aspects of its insides that take instiration from the other spires, though the outside is mostly stone brick.
