Orion Constellation

the Archer

Orion is one of the three clusters of permanent stars of Alanspace. It is best seen from Aldern during the latter half of each age, as the Parcel wanes. In the early centuries of the Cycle, when Juva sits between the stars and Aldern, especially when it seems Juva is inside the constellation, it is called Juva Orion. Orion has seven main stars. It was 'offically' named Orion by the astronomers of Lakorth in the second century of the Lakorthian Age. The name that has remained since. The oldest recorded observation of this constellation comes from stone tablets found in the La Mech ruins of the ancient Benet civilization. These tables are believed to date back to the prehistoric periods.

Many star charts through history have attempted to draw lines between these stars. On the major continent of Dergonhad it is associated with a dragon form, similar to the Draco Constellation. On the major continent of Ethae, the Capedians drew lines between the stars as a great bow with a nocked arrow. To them and other cultures of Novyum it was a guide and a blessing for hunters. Its modern name of Orion comes from the Capedian word for archer.
