Nura
Light
Nura Orbs are spheres of the Anon (Magic) that shed light. They can range in size of something that can be held in the palm of the hand, to the size of planets in Alanspace that mankind calls stars. Naturally occurring nura on Aldern were about the size of a human head. These were created by Aterleg, Elder Tree, and some lesser magical trees across the world. These orbs of light have no weight or mass and had the consistency of what can be described as a thick cloud. Touching them would send a spark of energy through the toucher, dimming the light of the orb, which would take a few days to grow back to the original luminosity. Wind and air movement would cause the nura to drift around their trees, but they would never drift beyond the tree's branches. These orbs would slowly drift back to their original positions after the outside force stopped pushing them around.
Mythology claimed the Alumite discovered the ability to create these orbs, though this was lost after the Aggelomachy. Several sources claim the nura creation was rediscover by one civilization or the other. The Espin people in the Randagri Period are the most likely the first of many that rediscovered the art of Casting a nura. The Benet are said to have entire cities lit by the nura, never using candle, lamp, or torch. Some claim the Siduumites discovered a way of removing nura orbs from the elder trees themselves, rather than create their own. A lost knowledge of a lost nation.
In the modern-day knowledge of the magic has reached a point where any with the ability to cast, or at least have a rudimentary understanding of magic, can create small hand sized nura orbs temporarily. These artificial orbs have a spongy feeling, able to be held without a loss of energy. They do not have that tingling spark when in contact with skin that natural orbs do. A hard strike can dissipate them completely. Many skilled Wizard go into the profession of creating long lasting nura for those with the coin to afford such a luxury. As expensive as these nura may be, they are common enough that most noble families across Ethae take advantage of for illuminating their houses. These created orbs will last anywhere from a few months to decades depending on the skill of the creator. The most skilled creators can create near permanent orbs that can be 'turned on' or 'turned off' at a command.
