Marou Poulou
the Merchant of Hambogin
Marou Poulou is a Prydian merchant, writer and painter who is famous for writing the Book of the Marvels from Beyond Aldern. The book describes his alleged travels into Alanspace and beyond the Crystal Sphere. Traveling with an unnamed Elf on a flying ship he called a Spelljammer, he claims to have meet many mysterious cultures on other worlds and seen sights no living Human ever has. The book is taking with a grain of salt. Most of the stories about other worlds are written off as fantasy. Over the years, the descriptions, and accompanying paintings, of Alanspace have been proven factual as astronomy has improved. This work is used in many schools in the modern day when talking about the cosmos.
The book was a failure in his lifetime. Few believed his fanciful tale. Marou spent much of his later life traveling Ethae, recreating paints from his work to sell to those willing to pay. The most famous of these recreations is the The Beginning of All Things painting. A ten-foot-tall painting of the Sea of Creation that hangs in the Black Pyramid in Southern Jerain.
