Imp Inn
Engren's Tower
Imp Inn, often shortened to 'the Imp', is a makeshift tavern and inn on Oberun's Isle. It is situated roughly halfway between the two major towns of the island, Festine Fortress on the north side of the island and Deluge on the south. Though only ten miles between both towns it can take a full day to reach from either due to the steep rocky roads leading up into the central hills of the island.
The site is the location of an ancient ruin known as Engren's Tower. The origins of the tower are lost to history, with some scholars claiming it originated at the height of the Lhakenwed, while others claim the Elf of Megiddo founded the site. Either way, the stone fortress has been built, abandoned and rebuilt countless times of the centuries. This has given the site a chaotic looking style. Some towers are round, other square, another is hexagonal. The site had been left empty for at least two-hundred years and fallen into disrepair. Beyond some weathering, the stone structure has remained largely intact. Its interior wood infrastructure, however, has completely rotted away.
The Orc horde that invaded Lhakamed in 204tc (6870sc) occupied Oberun's Isle as well and used Engren's Tower as a central base of operations for the island. After King Wilhelm Alyster returned to liberate his kingdom of Toemanshire he took control of Festine Fortress. Continuing on to the mainland, he left a small fighting force to retake the island. These soldiers conquered the orc of Engren Tower, and in turn used the site as a launching point to liberate the rest of the island.
Once Oberun's Isle was free of orc control Engren's Tower was no longer needed as a camp site for the soldiers. A small group, however, remained setting up a way point for travelers to rest the night as the traversed the island. Two of the large military tents remained. One outside the fortress where travelers can find coats to lay their heads for the night for a few coin. The other is built over the fortress' central yard. This has been converted into a kitchen and dining hall for caravans to rest and get a good meal of mutton and a mug of ale. This makeshift tavern and camp site has fondly taken on the name Imp Inn by the soldiers that were once stationed there. Many of whom will return to the site between duties to blow off some steam and gather around comrades.
Though some of the infrastructure has slowly been repaired by the Imp's staff, there is no indication that the tents will be removed. They have become the icon of the site. The rooms being built within the surviving towers are said to be for those that can pay well for them, with plans of most being 'bought' by the veterans of the war, or wealthy locals as a permanent room at the Inn. There is even some talk of using the remote site as a grain storage and defensive location should the orc return.
