Grafan

The Ancients of Ubara

The Grafan were an ancient culture that dwelt on the east coast of Ubara's Arm, between the sea and Whidel's Wall. History records them being defeated by the Lakortha during the reign of the Republic of Lakorth. The last Grafan dying in 4532sc in the Siege of Grafi. Few records survive of these people outside of their cultural name. Scholars cannot even agree if this strong seafaring culture is of Slava or Novya in origin.

There is little record or understanding of this ancient culture. Some of their pottery has survived, made from a surprisingly durable clay of unknown origin. Intact examples of this pottery are usually found preserved on the coastal sea floor. Swirling patterns and multi-headed sea serpents are the most common depictions on these jars and pots. It is a tradition in Grafi to place the best-preserved examples of this pottery in tight oval alcoves of exterior home walls.
