Circle of the Moons

the Skin-Walkers

Circle of the Moons druids, called skin-walkers by the Los, and often known simply as moons druids, are some of the most dangerous druids on the major continent of Ethae. These druids harness the power and cycle of the moons, Ahrima and Ahura, for their strength. They focus their magic on their ability to transform into animals and beast. This makes them fierce warriors and protectors of the last two Elder Tree and lands around them. Circle of the Moons druids find their home in Brimland of Elder Tree Brimad.

Two contradictory legends claim the origin of these druids. Their own myth is that the first Circle of the Moon druids were gifted their powers from Brimad in response to the deaths of the other elder trees. This origin story claims a dozen ancient druids sacrificed themselves to the tree to create a conduit for a new generation of druids to connect with the lunar cycles. The Jenuwan Order claim the Church holds ancient codex describing the origin of the Circle of the Moon is the Aggelomachy. They claim that according to nearly every myth of the heavenly war both sides of the conflict were creating hybrid warriors, created with animals and men. These early warriors and the rituals to create them, slow evolved into the modern druids in general, and the moons druids specifically. There is no definitive evidence of which is closer to the truth.

With Brimland of- limits to outsiders, moon druids are some of the rarest seen of the druidic circles. Their numbers are also low because new druids usually only come from the offspring of existing mated members. On occasion other children will join the moons druids. These children come from the Brimies. The Brimad Fairy will sometimes travel out of the Brimland, returning later with a newborn they have taken from Human parents, either against the parents' wishes, or through some nefarious deal.

Brimland may be their home, and their duty is to defend the land and its tree, but some moons druids do venture out into Aldern. Many of these that leave have a destination; the Loslands. These moons druids, despite being a creation of Brimad, desire to keep Hamis safe and in the world as well. They have contact with the Circle of the Lands druid communities but often live a solitary life, traveling the Loslands looking for danger to the elder trees. Most of these moon druids can be found in or near the Kincad Mountains, acting as a wall of warriors keeping the outsider Normon away.

It is rare, but some Circle of the Moons druid find adventuring parties to join and travel with. Their goals are often their own, but many seek knowledge of other elder trees, fairies or lands where humans have not touched and exploited. Other might do this to study the outsider world to better prepare their people for the coming of mankind into Brimland. Something that many fear as inevitable.

Drawing their power from the moon, these druids are often more active at night. Their communities reside in regions of the Brimlands where there are fewer trees to block the sky, so the moons can stay in few throughout their cycle. Their community is divided into two groups; the Ahriman, who never leave Brimland, and the Ahuran, who travel beyond Brimland borders.
