Celestial Patron

the Promise of Angels

A Warlock with Celestials patrons is something of a new subclass, having only started appearing in the last hundred years or so. These warlocks have causes heavy theological debates among the clergy. There are discussions on if taking on a celestial patron is a form of worshipping that celestial. Traditionalists point to it being no different than praying to saints for guidance and protection as the Northern Trijan Church is known to do. However, some of the same traditionalist will also state that only Alu himself should grant the ability to use Magic, thus only clerics should be allowed to cast. Their opposition will point to the fact that celestials serve in the heavenly host and serve Alu, they would not be able to grant abilities to human if God did not allow it. Still others says that the debate is pointless as the vast majority of celestial warlocks serve as members of the Church.

Celestial warlocks do not seek out this profession, they are usually called. Many people claim they had a feeling in their hearts for weeks, years, even decades that they had a divine purpose before the celestial appears to them with the offer. Others will feel led to tasks or locations that will prove they are ready. The path to celestial warlock is as varied as the individual and the celestial. Once called it is a lifelong commitment to a live of service.

It is believed that nearly all celestial warlocks serve the Northern Trijan Church. However, there is no obligation for anyone called to serve as a warlock to join the ranks of the Church. It usually turns out that many are already faithful people before the call comes. There may be many celestial warlocks out there that make a pact with their patron without reporting to the Church.

The Northern Trijan Church has come to acknowledge celestial warlocks as members of the clergy, and holy men, even as the debates continue. Their southern counterpart, the Trijan Church of Jerain, however, consider the class blasphemy and their inquisitors will put any warlock found on trial, with execution being a possible outcome.

Celestial warlocks have grown in numbers in the Western Reach of Ethae and the islands of the Cota Ocean. The Northern Church has also been sending them to the major continent of Dergonhad for missionary work, concluding the Dagmon might be more willing to convert to a religion that is more closely related to their own.
