Frenyston (freh-nih-STUN)
Nothing quite like a trip into the shallows of the Shimmersea to get yourself going!
A southern coastal town in Harshire, Ilyana. It boasts a strong fishing trade.
The Governing Body
Like most populaces in Ilyana, the village has an elected body who governs the local area. In their case, it is the Frenysian Council. One of the duties of the Council is to report taxation and criminal activity to Hartrime.
Life in the Village
Though humans founded the village, and have lived there ever since, over time the settlement also became home to a number of Kuo-toan families for the fact it is near the Shimmersea, an idyllic location for them to live. There is an element of classism, though different to what might be expected elsewhere: fishermen are regarded as the finest job you can possess, and are valued above all else. Without them, the village's main source of trade would be gone. It is considered dishonourable to not enjoy fishing, particularly if you are a born and bred Frenysian.
Shipyards and Safety
Frenyston is relatively small, and its infrastructure is a reflection of this, housing very few grand designs of its own. However, it does boast an impressive shipyard, a necessity for the village's primary source of income. There are no cobbled roads, but the town itself is well-structured, and expands outwards from the shipyard near the coast. Low walls surround the outskirts of the village, designed only to keep out wild animals and unsavoury creatures. A bay has been sculpted out of the coast, used by the fishermen to house their boats when they are not out at sea.
Not the Adventuring Type
Unlike many places across Ilyana, Frenyston does not have an Adventurer's Guild; the closest building is in the town of Rustel, a few days north of the village. Only one other settlement in Ilyana does not have a guild building, so it is a strange sight for travellers who come south to the village. The reason for the lack of a guild building is simply because the village was deemed too small to warrant one; there has been a considerable lack of growth in the village, most likely due to its geographical position being so far from anything else, and so it was decided unnecessary to establish a branch of the Adventurer's Guild there. Instead, a more unofficial approach to guild quests was set up, with a simple quest board for postings in the village square.
Relic's Tower
Atop the village's cliffside sits a disused clocktower, which has been there for as long as anyone in the village can remember. Unbeknownst to them, however, it concealed an entrance to a secret chamber built some centuries ago by a wizard called Thundalis.
