Commerce District
The Commerce District is a district in Qarah's Dream. It is located to the south of the city, closest to the Yawning Ocean.
This district is used entirely for the trading of goods, and (mostly) not services; all merchandise that transits between Siarvald and Yasamaq comes through this district, meaning that it is Aj'kar's biggest "marketplace". Dreamers often say that "if it isn't sold in the Commerce District, then it's either illegal or doesn't exist".
Locations
- Qarah's Dream National Bank ("QDNB"): The only one of its kind in all of Aj'kar, this massive and very fancy establishment is mostly frequented by the wealthiest merchants and nobles. Even those of poorer finances occasionally visit to try and get a loan, but the bank's interest rate is punishingly high, making them a poor option for all but the most desperate.
- The Guided Dream Company: Due to the sheer size of Qarah's Dream, this lucrative business allows visitors of the city to hire guides and/or rent steeds and coaches that will guide them through its streets and sights. It employs many magically-inclined people, mostly for their ability to cast spells such as tongues. Not to be confused with the service that allows for quick transport in Qarah's Dream, which is government-funded.
- The Everlasting Market: The largest marketplace in all of Aj'kar. Merchants from all over the world come to peddle their wares here, as long as they're not sold directly to the city. A common idiom states that if it isn't sold there, then it can't be found on either Siarvald or Yasamaq. Its name is more of a nickname, earned because of its tendency to never be bereft of traders.
- The Warrior's First Choice: Although this surprisingly small store does not craft its own weapons nor armors, it buys the best items available on both continents and sells them at a premium. Therefore, only those with a very specific need go there; often, that need can be fulfilled quickly, and if it can't, it can certainly be acquired.
- Chic Detail: One of the largest establishments in the entire District, this store sells all types of clothes, from dresses fit for a queen to work clothes appropriate for field work. They have a nigh-monopoly, and small stores are forced to sell their wares at extremely low prices just to compete with them.
- The Reverie: Although it doesn't benefit from a famous chef, unlike Hell's Kitchen in Mundegap, this restaurant has taken on a very different concept: to create a cuisine that is not just a combination of Siarvaldan and Yasamaqi cuisine, but indeed one that is wholly unique to Qarah's Dream. As a concept restaurant, it is quite expensive, but famed nonetheless.
- Drashud's Bakery: Despite the reputation that this bakery has acquired over the years, it has remained a small, "mom-and-pop" shop. Although it is constantly busy, the quality of the goods has managed to stay consistent. Famous for its cinnamon-and-honey buns.
