Magosá (May-GO-sah)

Magosá is the goddess of magic and water in the Outer Gyrlands, and presides over the concepts of water, magic, the sea, rain, peace, mer-folk, sea elves, sea creatures, and humans. She is a strongly good-aligned deity, and she is known as the first Creator God to bring life to the world. Known as the Queen of Sea and Spell, and The Pool Keeper, she watches over any and all magic practitioners in the realm, as well as any who dwell in the sea or near a coastline. She is the mother of the gods Sheema, Emerisk, and Abaranth, and sister to the gods Frácos , Slauthé, and Drothé.

Magosá is one of the Prime Four deities, and is only rivaled in power by the other three gods of Creation. All who dwell in or around water, or make their living upon the sea, are in some way tied by fate to Magosá. Likewise, any and all with a talent or aptitude to casting spells, whether by careful study or innate natural talent, are seen by her as her children.

Magosá's clerics pray for their spells in the evening. They pray standing upright, heads bowed and arms folded across the chest, facing toward the closest body of water, or otherwise the nearest known ocean coastline. Clerics and followers of Magosá fight tirelessly to oppose evil. The faithful of Magosá are dedicated to preserving lore, especially magical secrets. Magosáns often become adventurers in order to hunt down lost magical relics and artifacts, seeking out and preserving old magic, such as rituals and spells that are not common knowledge. Magosá herself gifts magic to her children, so that they may lead better lives, and strive to improve the lives of others. Magosá is opposed to evil deities, particularly Vamaré, Necrostylus, and Lomus.

Itinerant Magosán clerics are welcome nearly everywhere. As a goddess of rain she is welcome in rural areas, who often see the presence of a Magosán priest or priestess as a good omen concerning rain for the areas crops. Sailors often worship Magosá for it is considered good to beseech her for fair weather and calm seas. Most folk see Magosá's ties to magic as a boon, although in some cases, if an area is particularly superstitious or leary of sorcery, they may treat Magosán worshippers with suspicion and fear. Magosán clerics also were constantly on the lookout for mages with ill intentions, and tried to curb the activities of such whenever possible.

Magosán temples double as both places of worship and study. Most large temples have either libraries or archives, dedicated toward the furtherance of magical knowledge. A Magosán temple is usually a blend of utility and aesthetics. Royal blues, gold and silver hues, and deep greens are the most popular colors in Magosá's churches. Magosán temples favor large open spaces, that allow for the practice of magical rituals on the fly, rather than rows of seating or raised altars. Large round rooms, where magic users can form a spellcasting circle are regular features as well. Some Temples take on acolytes with magical talent and try to place them with mentors who can tutor them in the ways of spellcasting. Lastly, almost all of Magosá's temples have a rooftop courtyard, accessible to all who wish to observe the skies for weather patterns and astrological portents.
