Harebrained Enchantments
A storefront renowned for its unique magic items, Harebrained Enchantments is a popular location among would-be wizards, war mages and other adventurers looking to increase their efficacy in combat.
Hawberk
Harebrained Enchantments’ founder, Hawberk the harengon, has been one Valoria’s most celebrated artificers since he moved from Miritar Forest thirty years ago. While his gruff, world-wearied exterior can be off-putting, he is rarely able to contain his enthusiasm with anyone who wants to talk shop.
Shop Interior
Harebrained Enchantments’ retail space appears unassuming compared to other high-profile locations with valuable merchandise. There are no guards, no golems and no locks on the doors.
A small, art nouveau birdhouse in the corner of the shop is home to Hawberk’s familiar, Constance, which has the appearance of a clockwork pixie.
Back Alley/Courtyard
The alley behind Harebrained Enchantments has been outfitted with a makeshift targeting range for testing Hawberk’s creations.
Three stone golems, which can be activated with the command word “animate,” are chipped and cracked from years of abuse. The statuesque figures are primarily used to demonstrate the usefulness of Hawberk’s magical items to prospective buyers.
The magical forge, which occupies the rest of the courtyard, can generate enough heat to work with even the most difficult material components.
Workshop/Bedroom
A simple door in the alley leads to Hawberk’s workshop, where he spends much of his time conceiving and creating magic items. The space is well-organized, with numerous components labeled in Sylvan in his flowery handwriting.
A well-worn enchanter’s table and an electroplating station rest against the workshop’s northern wall.
Hawberk’s partitioned bedroom in the south-western corner is rather spartan, speaking to his preference for late nights spent tinkering rather than sleeping. Beyond a modest bed and a chest for personal effects, only a few sentimental trinkets line a simple shelf on the wall.
Armour Plating
In addition to enchanting items, Hawberk is capable of electroplating armour. For a fee of 1,500gp, a metallic set of armour may be coated in one of the following metals for the specified effect. A set of armour may only receive the benefits of one type of metal at a time.
- Orichalcum: this bronze-gold metal dissipates magical energy. You gain advantage on spell-based Dexterity saving throws, and ranged spell attacks targeting you are made with disadvantage.
- Byeshk: this eldritch purple metal emits a near imperceptible hum. While Aberrations and Constructs are within 60ft of you, their attacks are made with disadvantage and they suffer 1d6 psychic damage per turn.
- Feywild Iron: this light, marbled metal is infused with feywild energy. While wearing this armour, you gain proficiency in Athletics, Acrobatics and Stealth. If you already have proficiency in a skill, you gain expertise in it instead.
- Perspicium: this opalescent metal is capable of adapting its appearance to its surroundings. While wearing this armour, you can cast pass without trace on yourself twice per long rest.
