Noscatrea

The Noscatrea is a name given to a type of undead creature that results from a Luminari being seduced and corrupted by Maven. Some Luminari are unsatisfied with the idea that they were created for the specific purpose of protecting the other races of Aellorah, and that it is their divine purpose to fight off the Voidspawn and other cosmic threats. They become disillusioned, and when they have an identity crisis, Maven comes to them; whispering in their ear of an alternative path. He convinces them that he can give them the power to take control of their own fate. However, the reality is that once he has his claws in them, their destiny is anything but their own.

When a Luminari is seduced into Maven's control, they are transformed into a Noscatrea; they lose their golden pallor and their skin becomes incredibly pale like a corpse. Their wings become physical and hang raggedly from their backs, leaving them unable to fly, only able to glide. Their features become gaunt, with their eyes becoming sunken and dark, and glowing a pale green color. Their hands blacken, and they gain the ability to shift between the Material and Ethereal planes at-will. Its name meaning "devourer of death" in Capruta, they develop a hunger that can only be satiated by absorbing spectral Flow, the energy that spirits are composed of; forcing them to hunt down the lost souls wandering Aellorah.

The Noscatrea cannot be killed easily, as when they die on the Material plane, they will simply shift into the Ethereal plane and be unable to return to the Material until they feed. To kill a Noscatrea permanently, either it must be killed on the Ethereal plane while it is weakened, or its spirit must be bound by a Soulbinder after it is forced into the Ethereal plane. The Noscatrea feed on spirits simply by touch, reaching out with their blackened hands to touch their prey, upon which the spirit's essence is absorbed, serving as food for the Noscatrea.
