Soulbinding
Soulbinding is a type of magic that originated with the Ettinor in Gothir which involves capturing the souls of those who die and containing them within Soulstones. These captured spirits can then be beckoned, bound to the Soulbinder's service, and made to do their bidding, or in many cases, fight for them. Soulbinders can also perform a number of rites which allow them to utilize the spirit's in other ways, such as binding them to a location, allowing them to haunt that location.
Many see this art as heretical or an abomination as it takes the autonomy away from the bound soul, but the Ettinor traditionally only use this art against monstrous creatures, or use it as a punishment for criminals by binding their spirits to a remote location to trap them there. There are even those who can bind a spirit to a physical body. There is a practice known as Sari'negol, one of the most brutal forms of punishment in Ettinor society, in which a spirit is rebound to its physical body after they are executed, and then their animated corpse is thrown into a deep pit with smooth walls so that the animated body is unable to escape, trapped in a hole, alone, for all eternity.
