T-Reader

"When traveling through the wilds of Valerick, one is simply underdressed without a T-Reader at their side to guide them. As key as any compass, it will help keep you safe from the unseen, but ever present dangers of the Void's corruption. Cartographer, explorer, mercenary, military, Packmaster, they all use this marvelous device, it is a tool as precious and important to their trades as any other, perhaps even more than most. After all in the true wilds of Valerick, or should you have the necessity or misfortune, amongst the twisted wilds of a Scar upon Reality or its surrounding regions, safety is a rare commodity in extremely high demand. However now any of you too can own this marvelous device should you have need. And all for the very reasonable starting ask and bid of two hundred and fifty Dune, a bargain made of generosity and one that sees Wastonian craftsfolk laughing mercilessly at me!"

A merchant marketing his product within one of Kalesh's open air bazaars, hoping to start a bidding war on the pieces, knowing that during the busy market day, if he sets his opening ask so low, which is about what he paid to acquire the five as a group, he can likely manipulate the price through auctioneering tactics and crowd work to easily as much as double or more that price, perhaps even triple or more on the last of them when the time comes."

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Using the Mithrium attuner, once the T-Reader is powered up, the magicore engine will operate as normal. The Mithrium pulls upon Creation's Currents, drawing them in through it and into the device, and through the vulcanglass tubing you will see a darkening, a dusking as it is put, of the glass, as that powdered obsidian reacts to the taint within all manna. However it is obvious shades, starting soft almost transparent grey, but working up to a near crackling deep black, basically not see through at all. These five shades indicate varying levels of danger. The softest grey, like a light smoke, is normal. Its safe. Each step beyond that has different levels of risk.   At the first level, it is heightened risks of magickal failures or loss of controls, strangeness with arcane objects or malfunctions of other types of magitech, though still not considered high risk. Risk to living creatures is next to none.

Beyond this though, the smoke will form only in the passage for the shard afflicted, or sometimes the levels may vary and this nuanced data can also provide you with more insight as to the nature of the corrupted environment, territory, creature or otherwise.   At the next level, where we get to a more oily grey, very cloudy smoke like tone, this is when there starts to be mild risks for long term exposures, things like nausea, headaches and confusion over a long enough time frame. If one were to be continually exposed to such levels, other more sever risks could manifest.   At the third level, where oily grey becomes a more charcoal and less transparent, it is here the risks jump. At this point the risk of mutation or other severe symptoms including sensory loses and things like vomiting blood and muscle failure rise to moderate if one is exposed for to long or too frequently. This is about the level when truly within regions of Scars upon Reality/World-Wounds.   Finally the fourth level, when it all goes black, indicates something of pure Void origin nearby. A wound in reality, a Voidling, or Voidstone perhaps. Something that should one be exposed fully and unprotected in close proximity for longer than a few minutes, catastrophic outcomes such as violent illness, sudden sensory failures, perhaps even permanent, mutations, and even death are all on the table.

However beyond that the various tubes will show different levels of corruption when appropriate as sometimes such regions like Scars, or various cursed items, mutated flora and fauna, and voidlings or apostates will show a stronger corruption within the manna type or types most heavily associated to them, for example the passage for the emerald shard will generally have a higher tier of warning than the rest.

Manufacturing process

This is a heavily guarded secret, a state secret in fact, as so often the cutting edge technologies coming out of Waston are.

Significance

T-Readers have most definitely altered the landscape in the realm of explorative professions out amongst the wilder and less urbanized regions of Valerick and most certainly have. They are a huge boon, allowing those wandering wild regions and around her near to Scars upon Reality/World-Wounds especially to be more aware of dangers unseeable and to avoid them, as well as limit their exposure to the mutagenic corruption of Void Taint as well as the destructive force and presence of any physical manifestation of the Void, such as mutated creatures or plant life, Voidlings or other hazards from reasonable distances and regardless of line of sight. Furthermore, it actually can provide contextual clues as to the types of dangers one might expect to encounter in and around those sorts of regions where Void Corruption is notably more potent based upon the various manna paths, the glass tubular pathways around which the manna shards of the engine orbit the small tool's magi-core.

Rarity
Still quite rare outside the Magitechnocracy of Waston, this device is greatly sought after, and is found in notable concentrations beyond Waston's borders in the hands of exactly one group. The Packmasters, through the Church of The Huntmaster's Faithful find themselves well equipped with them, though notably still lacking enough for every member or even every other member to carry one. Instead they are within the trusted bonds of smaller 'packs' within the group, the teams that naturally form, groups of 3-6, within the order. Beyond Waston's borders these objects can sell for truly offensive sums of coin, however even within the nation they sell on average for about 300 Shaillings.

Part of this price is their rarity. Though their are a notable number that exist, likely into the tens of thousands, it is notable to consider that is worldwide, and that at current time the only known place they can be manufactured is within Waston, specifically in the city of Rydan, from only one of three makers. These objects, if cared for properly, can last decades and even centuries, however part of that care does require some technical know-how. Specifically over time the small plates that make up the iron-obsidian alloy casing of the device will need replacing. It is recommended about every five years or so.
