Theoid Reading
A breakthrough worth having for any traveler and explorer, endorsed by the Packmasters themselves, whom still seek regular commissions for their order. A cutting edge finding for the potential of Magi-core Reactors, making one small enough to be reasonably carried by an individual, no larger than a moderate sized book. Imagine a world where the risk of wandering into the regions of a Scar upon Reality or some other such anomaly without warning, since not all such regions present with the twisting of nature oft associated to them. Some can be much more subtle, the dangers nearly beyond perception, oft until it is too late. But no longer. The discovery of this unique technical process and tooling, no longer does this risk need to be the reality of exploration.
Bold claims of one of Rydan's most reputable magi-core research groups within the city's Engineering Guild.
Utility
This process is useful in a few different ways. The most obvious is of course in the base function, the refracting of the manna within the Aether, not something one can detect unless born with Aether Sight and highly trained how to recognize the twisting of the Void's taint within the various hues of the flows of Manna within Creation's Currents. However the T-Reader, its whole purpose is to remove that necessity, for it will show you signs of such taint. Specifically, the small shards of the Manna Engine itself are visible within their rotations, fixed with special tubings of a unique glass blown with powdered obsidian to protect from direct exposure or magical interference within the rotational field around the core. The device itself uses a Mithrium probe, an antennae pretty much, like a divining rod. The Mithrium pulls upon Creation's Currents, drawing them in through it and into the device, and through the vulcanglass tubing you will see a darkening, a dusking as it is put, of the glass, as that powdered obsidian reacts to the taint within all manna. However it is obvious shades, starting soft almost transparent grey, but working up to a near crackling deep black, basically not see through at all. These five shades indicate varying levels of danger. The softest grey, like a light smoke, is normal. Its safe. Each step beyond that has different levels of risk.
At the first level, it is heightened risks of magickal failures or loss of controls, strangeness with arcane objects or malfunctions of other types of magitech, though still not considered high risk. Risk to living creatures is next to none.
At the next level, where we get to a more oily grey, very cloudy smoke like tone, this is when there starts to be mild risks for long term exposures, things like nausea, headaches and confusion over a long enough time frame. If one were to be continually exposed to such levels, other more sever risks could manifest.
At the third level, where oily grey becomes a more charcoal and less transparent, it is here the risks jump. At this point the risk of mutation or other severe symptoms including sensory loses and things like vomiting blood and muscle failure rise to moderate if one is exposed for to long or too frequently. This is about the level when truly within regions of Scars upon Reality/World-Wounds.
Finally the fourth level, when it all goes black, indicates something of pure Void origin nearby. A wound in reality, a Voidling, or Voidstone perhaps. Something that should one be exposed fully and unprotected in close proximity for longer than a few minutes, catastrophic outcomes such as violent illness, sudden sensory failures, perhaps even permanent, mutations, and even death are all on the table.

Manufacturing
Manufacturing these devices is a heavily involved task requiring the work of many tradesfolk and of course skillfully mechanics in their assembly and set up. Smithies, glassblowers, magi-core engineers, millwrights, there are many skilled hands involved in the creation of one of these units.
Social Impact
This tech has begun, and is certain to continue to do so as it becomes more readily available, to revolutionize the craft of being a Packmaster for certain, and as they become both more readily available and better priced, without a doubt it will likely become a mainstay within Exemplari bands. In fact this has already begun to come into being, for though the devices are still a little wieldy in size they are comfortable enough to carry, no different than wearing a prayer book or spell-tome on one's hip.
The biggest struggle for such ventures however is keeping the device safe when engaged in other activities or just when traveling in general, the glass tubing as of now, whilst not weak glass by any stretch is still comparatively a delicate component and thus those carrying one do need to be mindful of allowing any sort of impact to befall it.

Access & Availability
These T-Readers as they are thus called are quite expensive and still exceedingly difficult to obtain. However they are an invaluable asset to any explorers, adventuring types. One very well known group whom have a standing contract and regular acquisition of some of these devices set up through the Church of the Hunt is of course, The Packmasters. For their specific charge and task, such technology and devices would be invaluable.

Discovery
The application of Theoid Reading was actually an accidental discovery, one made on an entirely different project. Specifically it was a noticed behavior when testing for how Voidstone interference would make what was supposed to be a sort of an adjustable manna gem diviner, the idea being you could set it up to alert you to the presence of manna gems of a particular color. The unique licensing within the Waston allows for some small groups with extreme oversight and protocols for storing, handling and usage, to keep and store Voidstone/Void-dust for just such testing. It is arguably the safest and most controllable way to test any magi-tech device prototype's responses to exposure of higher volumes of Void interference.
During testing a noticeable phenomenon occurred within the device, which swiftly proved not efficient for the intended task, and the engineerers and mechanics working on the project took notice of it, and after going through great effort, research and a wide variety of still secretive field testings (perhaps involving the capture and forcible participation of apostates or even shamans) the device was repurposed, this unique reaction better understood and harnessed. Thus the process and tools to allow it, Theoid Reading, were born.

Sounds like an invaluable piece of technology. Hopefully someone will be able to make a version less fragile and less expensive eventually!
