Kemmet, The Snowbound

The Brawler's Hut was the only place one could find a reprieve from the winter raging outside of Wurgh. As another failed aspirant was dragged away from the now thrice victorious Chief Bagradan a draft blew through the heavy curtain keeping the heat in. It in the brief instant the outside world flickered from view, that Bagradan had seen him. Kemmet, the legendary snow wanderer was here and Bagradan knew only one thing... He wished to fight.

Marching endlessly amidst the boundless snowdrifts of the the northern islands to be found within the expanse, Kemmet, The Snowbound is a legendary figure often said to be seen marching in the distant horizons between crags that mark the horizon and the pale white sky of the snow blown islands. Kemmet is revered across the whole of Orcish society, the greatest of display being the statue of him built in the town square of Mezgrogdahn.

For as long as the Orcs have lived on the Islands of Cragtooth Island and Groz-Bhorum, stories have been told of a figure towering nearly twelve feet tall in a full suit of plate armor lined with many furs that stick out of the gaps in his armor. Despite repeated sightings over the many hundreds of years the Orcs have occupied these islands, no one person it is said has ever been able to get close to Kemmet.

Those who dare to approach him find themselves caught in a quickly gathering snowstorm that relents moments later only to find Kemmet disappeared. It is in these snowstorms some say that he is ferried from place to place. The more braggadocios of storytellers may lay claim to otherwise but these are oft dismissed as the ramblings of the mad, or from someone just trying to impress their peers.

Kemmet Snowbound
Where strides Kemmet Snowbound, a storm is sure to follow. Where a storm rages, Kemmet is said to be in it's midsts.
For several hours, Bagradan marched snow-blind through the mid day snow. Kemmet had been but a stone's throw away when he demanded combat. His refusal by silence rippled through Bagradan as an insult, and one that would not, nor could not be tolerated. It had happened all so fast, his warrior's temper getting the better of him, the mad dash towards the towering figure , and the sudden gusts of wind surrounding him. When at last the Chief came to, neither Kemmet nor Wurgh was nowhere in sight...

Summary

It is spoken among Orc clans that Kemmet was one of the great chiefs who lived amongst the mountaintops of the Vales of Horakh-Dhrum and who was also among the first of the Orcs to leave the ancestral lands long before even the wars of displacement with the early kingdoms of the Aelves. Marching north to the coast of what is now known as Hattokar's Sea, Kemmet departed north in search of unexplored lands.

Though none has ever been able to approach Kemmet, nor even received reply when called out to. Those who have listened to the howl of the wind can make out the faintest traces of an old Orc dialect, hardly spoken now but for the most wisest of elders. Only said to speak in riddles, those who have set aside their life to the interpretation of these suggest Kemmet offers guidance to all Orcs and how they may one day return to the Mainland, from where they came.

Where strides Kemmet, lime-green flowers which the Sendorei call Kemmetsteps are said to bloom in against the harsh snow that chokes the earth. Kemmetsteps are known for the pleasant sweet tastes and are often a staple of Orcish holiday treats.

Bagradan lost track of time by now, but by his own estimation, well past midnight... Marching through knee high snow now had his legs moving like an old cow. The rage that had fueled him previously had abandoned him and in it's place dread now took root.
