Bai Yan An
An immortal cultivator and husband to the demon Bai Liqiu. Yan An has five children, the eldest being Bai Xue Ying, and lives in a secluded part of the demonic realm, the Thousand Vortices. His other children from oldest to youngest are: Bai Long Chen, Bai Qiao, Bai Rou Ying, and Bai Xing.
Despite being originally from Zhenhai, Yan An takes little interest in its politics. He and his wife go to some lengths to prevent Xue Ying from participating in the War of Eternal Day, keeping him confined to home until he is able to break out on his own - proving his ability to take care of himself. When Xue Ying and his would-be rescuer Xun Ying Ti get into a fight with his brother Long Chen during a breakout attempt, Yan An intervenes only to get Xue Ying safely back home after his injuries cause him to pass out. Long Chen's poor performance with his swordwork during the fight earns him months of training with Yan An.
After the war, Yan An is patient with Xue Ying's recovery, but warns Xue Ying against avoiding difficult decisions.
"Do not hide from complexity, Jie Ying, or you'll succeed."

Morality & Philosophy
Yan An prefers to distance himself from everyone but his family, mostly keeping to his robust library. He and his wife share the belief that survival is paramount; family members must be able to largely take care of themselves, and beyond them there is little else worth sacrificing personal health and wellbeing. For this reason, Yan An largely disapproves of his eldest son Xue Ying's human friends, as they have a propensity to drag him into risky and dangerous situations.
Some things, however, are worth diligence and effort; Yan An has little tolerance for laziness, but a great deal of patience for his children's attempts to improve themselves. When his eldest son took interest in cultivation, Yan An accompanied him for over two decades in the search for a cultivator's sword that would abide his dual nature. He rarely provided shortcuts, but he did support Xue Ying's growth.

Yan An holds his family in high regard. His praise for his kids is sparing, but genuine - and therefore valued. He is affectionate towards his wife and enjoys playing spectator to her energetic approach to life.
