Bai Rou Ying
The Lantern of Winter Summit (a.k.a. Little Lantern)
The youngest daughter of Bai Liqiu and Bai Yan An, a gregarious half-demon. Rou Ying is the second-to-last child and finds life at home to be lonely. She has a knowledge of healing and poisons, and initially tends to lean more into her demon heritage, though she does like to meditate. She occasionally drops in on her friendliest sibling, Bai Xue Ying, on his travels. This leads to her developing empathy towards mortals and her eventual sojourn in Zhenhai.
The first time this occurred, Xue Ying was traveling with Zhang Huai Shi, who did not yet know that his best friend was a half demon. Rou Ying visited while Xue Ying was on night watch and asked him if he wanted to see something she'd learned how to do recently. When he said yes, she transformed into a small flame... and could not transform back. Xue Ying kept her in a lantern for a few months and told Huai Shi that it was a local artifact, the Lantern of Winter Summit.
Rou Ying also visits Xue Ying and Huai Shi in 1246 shortly after the two rescue Gao Zhong Hu from long imprisonment. She soon discovers that Gao Zhong Hu is wearing a demon artifact, the Eye of the White Leopard, and she ends up under its curse after trying to get a closer look at it. Xue Ying takes her to their home in the Thousand Vortices to get their father's help breaking the curse. She returns with him briefly to the mortal realm to help him dismantle the same curse on her optimistically appointed friend Zhong Hu.
When Liqiu kidnaps Xue Ying in 1247 to prevent him from joining the War of Eternal Day, Rou Ying enlists the help of Xun Ying Ti mildly poisons the household to enable her brother's escape. After the war, Rou Ying visits all of her brother's friends and makes one of her own in Cheng Li Shu, an orphan who stays first with the Gao family and then with the Zhangs. She protects Li Shu from her brother Bai Long Chen when he follows her out to the Cold Wolf Sect to assert his displeasure in her association with mortals in general and Xue Ying's friends in particular.
